Job Description
The Electrical Service Technician maintains and repairs mission-critical mechanical and electrical systems in high-reliability environments such as data centers, hospitals, and manufacturing facilities. This role combines hands-on electrical power expertise with mechanical skills to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operation of critical infrastructure. The technician performs installation, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on complex systems while adhering to strict operational and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mission-critical mechanical and electrical systems in facilities such as data centers, hospitals, and manufacturing plants.
Install, service, and troubleshoot both AC and DC electrical power systems and associated mechanical equipment.
Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance using electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, DLROs, and infrared scanning tools.
Read, interpret, and apply complex electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to complete work accurately and safely.
Service and maintain Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and battery systems to ensure continuous power availability.
Maintain and troubleshoot Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and associated electrical distribution equipment.
Support the operation, testing, and maintenance of standby generators and fuel systems to ensure reliable backup power.
Inspect, test, and maintain Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) to ensure proper transfer between utility and backup power sources.
Monitor, operate, and support Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EPMS) to optimize performance and reliability.
Perform wiring, conduit bending, and electrical service work in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshoot and support high-voltage equipment and related components as required.
Assist with fire alarm and fire alarm system checks and basic troubleshooting as needed.
Provide field service at the assigned critical facility, working closely with a partner technician at all times.
Document work performed, test results, and system conditions clearly and accurately for operational records.
Collaborate with other technicians and site personnel to ensure safe work practices and coordinated maintenance activities.
Respond to issues during assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays, to support continuous facility operations.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience in critical facility operations, such as a data center or hospital environment.
Strong proficiency in both AC and DC electrical power systems, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
Hands-on experience with mechanical systems related to mission-critical facilities.
Proficiency using electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, DLROs, and infrared scanning tools, for diagnostics and preventive maintenance.
Ability to read, interpret, and work from complex electrical and mechanical schematics and blueprints.
Experience with mission-critical systems such as UPS and batteries, PDUs, standby generators and fuel systems, ATS, BMS, and EPMS.
Demonstrated troubleshooting, repair, and service skills in a field service or critical facility setting.
Experience with wiring, electrical service work, and conduit bending.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Experience with switchgear, generators, UPS, or other significant electrical systems for candidates identified as electrical specialists.
Capability to obtain an Electrical License through the City of Harrisburg within the first year of employment.
Familiarity with high-voltage systems and safe work practices.
Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, on a rotating schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Background in data center, hospital, or other mission-critical environments.
Experience with fire alarm and fire alarm systems in an operational setting.
Exposure to pneumatics and hydraulics in support of facility systems.
Basic carpentry skills to support installation and maintenance tasks.
Prior field service experience supporting complex electrical and mechanical systems.
Journeyman-level electrical experience or licensure is highly beneficial.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills for recording maintenance and test activities.
Ability to work effectively in a team, especially in a paired or buddy system environment.
Willingness to work in a union environment and comply with union membership requirements.

Work Environment
This position is fully onsite in a mission-critical facility environment, working directly within a secure operations setting. The schedule follows a 4-on, 2-off rotation with 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays as assigned, with overtime paid for hours worked beyond 8 per day. Technicians always work in pairs, ensuring safety and collaboration during all tasks. The environment involves regular interaction with advanced electrical and mechanical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, PDUs, ATS, BMS, and EPMS, as well as the use of professional test equipment including multimeters, DLROs, and infrared scanners. Work is performed in a union setting, and immediate union membership is required, with union dues paid by the employer. The facility operates continuously, and the role involves working in plant, equipment room, and data center-@type spaces where adherence to safety procedures, protective equipment requirements, and site protocols is essential.
