Job Title: Skilled Construction Laborer - Binghamton
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to work on commercial and multi-family construction projects while learning a mechanical trade. You will support experienced tradespeople on site by moving materials, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and assisting with mechanical construction tasks such as pipefitting, cutting pipe, and basic brazing and soldering. This position is ideal for someone with foundational construction experience who wants to grow into a long-term career in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
Move materials and equipment safely and efficiently throughout the construction site to support daily operations.
Perform general site cleanup, including removing debris, organizing tools and materials, and maintaining a safe and orderly work environment.
Assist skilled mechanical workers with construction activities, including HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system installations.
Support pipefitting tasks by helping measure, cut, and prepare pipe according to specifications.
Assist with cutting pipe and performing basic brazing and soldering under the guidance of experienced tradespeople.
Use hand and power tools correctly and safely to complete assigned tasks.
Read and follow basic blueprints or layout instructions as directed by supervisors or higher tradespeople.
Work as part of a crew of approximately 5-10 team members, coordinating tasks and communicating effectively to keep projects on schedule.
Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times on site.
Contribute to the installation of ductwork and other HVAC components on commercial and multi-family housing projects.
Support assembly tasks related to mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems as directed.
Demonstrate a strong desire to learn, accept coaching from experienced tradespeople, and progress into an apprenticeship role over time.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of construction experience, or a minimum of 6 months of recent hands-on construction work in a commercial or multi-family environment.
Experience using basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively on a construction site.
Strong interest and desire to learn a mechanical trade such as HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical construction.
Ability to assist with pipefitting tasks, including measuring and cutting pipe.
Willingness and ability to learn basic brazing and soldering techniques under supervision.
Capability to read and follow simple blueprints or layout drawings with guidance.
Comfort working in a physically demanding environment, including lifting materials, standing, and moving throughout the workday.
Reliable attendance and punctuality for a 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM schedule.
Ability to follow safety instructions and consistently wear required PPE.
Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills and the ability to take direction from experienced tradespeople.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience as an apprentice, helper, or laborer in construction, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or related trades.
Exposure to commercial or industrial construction environments.
Familiarity with HVAC systems, ductwork installation, or mechanical assembly.
Basic understanding of OSHA safety practices on construction sites.
Experience working on multi-family housing or apartment new-build projects.
Interest in solar, mechanical, or other building systems as part of a long-term career path.
Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development to advance within the mechanical trades.

Work Environment
The role is based on commercial and industrial construction sites focused primarily on new-build multi-family housing projects within roughly a 10-mile radius of Rochester, New York, including surrounding communities such as Irondequoit, Greece, and Henrietta. Work is performed on active construction sites as part of a crew of about 5-10 people, with all team members required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. You will regularly use hand tools and power tools while assisting with HVAC, plumbing, ductwork, pipefitting, and mechanical assembly. The standard schedule runs from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with overtime offered as needed. The environment is fast-paced and physically active, with all work conducted locally so you can return home each day rather than traveling overnight.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
