Job Title: Registered Nurse - Outpatient Orthopedic Clinic
Job Description
This outpatient Registered Nurse role supports a busy orthopedic clinic by coordinating patient scheduling, managing high call volumes, and providing clinical triage in a collaborative, patient-centered environment. The position focuses on delivering high-quality care through efficient use of electronic medical records, clear communication with patients and clinical staff, and consistent support of a predictable daytime schedule.
Responsibilities
Schedule patient appointments accurately and efficiently to support a high-volume orthopedic practice.
Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, providing clear information and support to patients and caregivers.
Perform clinical triage over the phone, assessing patient needs, prioritizing concerns, and directing patients to appropriate levels of care.
Assist with insurance verification processes to help ensure accurate billing and a smooth patient experience.
Use the Epic electronic health record system to document patient interactions, update medical records, and support clinical workflows.
Support electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) workflows, maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient information.
Assist with rooming patients as needed, including preparing exam rooms and supporting clinicians in delivering care.
Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and support staff in a team-based, outpatient setting.
Provide patient-centered communication that emphasizes compassion, respect, and clear explanations of care plans.
Help manage higher patient and call volumes on Mondays and Fridays by prioritizing tasks and maintaining organized workflows.
Participate in a collaborative, community-based care model that supports consistent, high-value care delivery.
Contribute to a positive clinic culture by demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Connecticut.
Demonstrated experience with triaging patients, including telephone triage in an outpatient or similar setting.
Epic electronic health record experience (required).
Proficiency using electronic health records (EHR) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Experience scheduling patients in a clinical or outpatient environment.
Experience answering high volumes of patient phone calls in a professional healthcare setting.
Ability to support patient rooming workflows in an outpatient clinic.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, clinicians, and support staff.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy clinic environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment
This role is based in a busy orthopedic office in Milford, CT, within a community-focused, outpatient setting. The clinic operates typical daytime hours, generally from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with some flexibility available based on clinic needs. Mondays and Fridays are the busiest days, with higher call and patient volumes. The environment emphasizes team-based, patient-centered care, with close collaboration among physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff. The clinic uses the Epic electronic health record system and relies heavily on electronic medical records and digital workflows. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $47.00/hr.
