Job Description
The Teacher Aide is responsible for assisting in gathering educational information on prisoners at their intake into the prison system. The Aide will assist in the coordination, administration and interpretation of academic/vocational tests, and will provide academic/vocational counseling to prisoners. This position is responsible for creating and collecting data for the prisoners' education records. The Aide receives general supervision; works within established methods, policies, procedures, and oral instructions; and uses independent judgment to select a proper course of action. This position is sited within the secure perimeter of a state correctional facility, and requires daily contact with and supervision of prisoners.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their Non-Custody New Employee Training.PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
