Job Title: Manufacturing Supervisor (3rd Shift)
Job Description
This role oversees a production department on 3rd shift in a manufacturing environment, leading a team of approximately 15 to 35 employees. The Manufacturing Supervisor ensures safe operations while meeting quality, delivery, and cost targets. The position requires a hands-on leader who drives 4S/5S practices, supports continuous improvement, and manages day-to-day production activities and performance.
Responsibilities
Coordinate training for new team members and create a structured cross-training plan to ensure full coverage of all processes and areas.
Serve as the first point of contact for department team members, providing clear communication, guidance, and support throughout the shift.
Facilitate start-of-shift meetings to communicate production expectations, safety updates, and daily priorities.
Plan department work assignments and assign daily tasks to production team members to meet production schedules.
Establish and manage priorities for work orders to achieve 100% on-time delivery to customers.
Take appropriate action to ensure each process sends 100% conforming products or parts to the next department.
Review and improve work instructions and procedures as needed to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
Determine root causes and implement countermeasures for product nonconformances, machine, tool, or process problems, and other abnormal conditions, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the development and execution of action plans established by the management team.
Conduct effective shift transitions with oncoming and off-going production supervisors or leads to ensure continuity of operations.
Step into production assignments as needed to support the team during absences, emergencies, or peak demand.
Lead the area using 4S+ or 5S practices, maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient work environment.
Audit work instructions to ensure they are complete and accurate, and verify that standard work is consistently followed.
Manage the performance of the department and production team members, providing coaching, feedback, and accountability.
Participate in the hiring process for new production team members, including interviewing and selection.
Administer disciplinary actions when necessary in a fair and consistent manner, in line with company policies.
Perform basic troubleshooting of machinery within the department to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
Recognize production bottlenecks and adjust plans, manpower, and resources as necessary to maintain flow and meet targets.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team of approximately 15 to 35 employees in a production setting.
Proven experience leading 4S or 5S activities and maintaining an organized, efficient work area.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, hold team members accountable, and drive results.
Experience with performance management, including providing feedback and managing disciplinary actions.
Hands-on experience in a production or manufacturing environment with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of machinery within the department.
Skill in recognizing bottlenecks and adjusting plans and manpower to maintain production flow.
Ability to use calipers for measuring parts accurately.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Familiarity with industrial equipment and mechanical tools.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for tracking data, KPIs, and production-related information.
Ability to locate and use work instructions and reference documents effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills with experience in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Capability to lead process improvement initiatives and support lean manufacturing practices.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds as part of regular job duties.
Ability to work in a hot, non-climate-controlled environment, especially during summer months.
Effective communication skills for leading meetings, coordinating with other supervisors, and supporting team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in automotive manufacturing is preferred.
Completion of a 2-year technical school program or technical degree is a plus.
Experience in lean manufacturing, KPI management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience as a production supervisor or lead in a high-volume production environment.
Exposure to leadership development and management skills training.
Experience facilitating team activities and driving engagement in a production environment.

Work Environment
The role is based in a non-climate-controlled automotive and industrial manufacturing facility that can become very hot during the summer months. The environment is production-focused and fast-paced, with exposure to industrial equipment, mechanical tools, and machinery. Team members work on 3rd shift and operate within a structured production environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Uniforms are provided, and safety equipment such as safety shoes and prescription safety glasses is supported through company programs. The facility supports hands-on work that may involve lifting up to 40 pounds and working in close coordination with other departments and shifts.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
