The Guernsey County Prosecutor's Office is seeking a Victim Advocate.

Job Description

The VAP Advocate streamlines communication for victims, informs victims of all court proceedings (explaining the charges, process and outcome), and attends hearings and trials with or on behalf of the victim, ensuring compliance with Marsy's Law notifications. The VAP assists victims with Victim Impact Statements, provides forms for purposes of restitution, victim compensation and healthcare release information. The Advocate monitors and advises of appeals and/or jail releases and provides access to the VINE system. The Advocate also seeks to connect the victim with local and state trauma informed services that are not otherwise provided through the VAP. The Advocate is a member of the Guernsey County Marsy's Law Task Force and Children Advocacy Center's MDT.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Victim Advocate is the primary contact with victims and witnesses for both Common Pleas Court and Juvenile Court.

Advocate will review all new cases as soon as they are received by the Prosecutor's office to obtain the facts of the crime as well as update Victim information.

Advocate will ensure compliance with Marsy's Law and inform victims of their rights.

Advocate will communicate with victims via phone, email and US mail sending required notifications regarding cases and Court proceedings.

Advocate will track communication with victims, law enforcement and other victim services for grant reporting purposes.

Advocate will contact victims in each case to explain what the Prosecutor's office does and to assist the Victim with the process, explanation of subpoenas and the importance of attending court hearings.

Advocate will inquire with victims regarding Bond Recommendations.

Advocate will screen victim cases for need of the Victim Alert Safety Plan as part of Bond Recommendations.

Advocate will collaborate with Haven of Hope (when necessary) and Probation Departments for implementation of Victim Alert Safety Plan.

Advocate will attend weekly law enforcement meetings, Marsy's Law Task Force meetings, Child Advocacy meetings, and Human Trafficking Task Force meetings for case updates.

Advocate will create parole files and notify victims of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation releases and Parole Board hearings.

Advocate will ensure that Post Conviction No Contact Orders are prepared for Prosecutor to provide at Sentencing.

Advocate will assist victims in registering for ODRC Victim Services notifications and V.I.N.E Notification system.

Advocate must have a good working relationship with the Prosecutors and Law Enforcement personnel as well as other victim programs in the County and at the State level with Ohio Department of Rehab Victim Services.

Advocate should be knowledgeable of programs in the county for victim referrals, as needed.

Advocate will communicate with the Guernsey County Jail regarding inmate status and release for victim notification

Advocate will schedule any meetings or phone conferences requested by the victims.

Advocate will prepare Marsy's Law packets including letter of introduction to be given to victims at Grand Jury.

Advocate is to attend hearings with any victims or if the victim cannot attend but has a statement to be heard.

Advocate will be asked to attend, advocate will attend preliminary hearings, arraignments and bond hearings.

Advocate will help victim fill out and file (paper or electronically) Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation Program through the Ohio Attorney General Office.

Advocate must speak with the victim regarding Motions for Judicial Release and Early Release from Community Control Sanctions to determine if the victim has a statement to be delivered to the Court in response to the motion.
