Responsibilities This Human Resources Assistant provides technical assistance and processing support to a team of human resources specialists and assistants who provide recruitment and placement, classification, employee relations, employee benefits, personnel action processing and other HR services for one or more assigned organizations. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Human Resources Assistant support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia, located in Washington, District of Columbia, focusing in the areas of staffing, classification, personnel processing and office automation. Typical work assignments will include: Performing human resources assistance duties in staffing, classification, quality control and personnel actions. Utilizing knowledge of the Empower HR (HER) system to process the spectrum of personnel actions for teams to include those of unusual, unprecedented, or difficult nature such as assignments or details to state governments, foreign countries, or international organizations; and special appointments such as various student employment programs. Producing a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced functions in each of several @types of office automation software, i.e., word processing, database management or spreadsheet. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-05 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (2) of the (3) duties listed below: Providing assistance and/or responding to questions regarding human resources related topics; Utilizing human resources electronic tools and systems to process routine personnel actions (i.e. assignments, details, specials appointments, etc.); Conducting basic research on personnel actions to resolve errors. OR Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
