This Medical Assistant role provides hands-on support in a clinic setting, focusing on patient follow-ups, data entry, and coordination of care. You will assist with scheduling, ordering labs, relaying results, and answering inbound calls while using an electronic medical record system. Responsibilities
Perform patient follow-ups to ensure continuity of care and timely updates.
Enter patient updates and clinical information accurately into the electronic medical record (EMR) system, specifically Athena.
Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, addressing patient questions and routing calls as needed.
Schedule follow-up appointments and manage appointment scheduling to support clinic operations.
Order laboratory tests according to provider instructions and clinic protocols.
Relay lab results to patients and providers in a clear, timely, and accurate manner, following clinic procedures.
Provide clinical support to providers and other healthcare staff as needed, within the scope of a Medical Assistant.
Support front desk activities such as check-in, check-out, and insurance-related tasks as required.
Use medical terminology appropriately when documenting and communicating patient information.
Deliver patient-centered care and customer service, ensuring a positive experience for patients and their families.
Collaborate with the healthcare team to maintain accurate medical records and efficient clinic workflow.
Follow clinic policies, procedures, and safety standards, including proper documentation and confidentiality.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience in medical assisting or a similar clinical support role.
Medical assisting diploma or certification, or 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience (preferred but not required).
High school diploma.
Hands-on experience working in a medical or healthcare environment.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Athena.
Knowledge of medical terminology and medical records documentation.
Experience with electronic health records and electronic medical records systems.
Ability to schedule appointments and manage patient flow in a clinic setting.
Experience in ordering labs and understanding lab workflows.
Strong patient care and clinical support skills within the scope of a Medical Assistant.
Ability to handle inbound phone calls and provide professional customer service.
Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or certification (if applicable in prior roles).
Understanding of health insurance processes related to patient visits.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and healthcare teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar credential is a plus.
Experience in front desk operations, including check-in, check-out, and insurance verification.
Background in healthcare customer service and patient-facing roles.
Familiarity with clinical workflows in a clinic environment.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting while maintaining high-quality patient care.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
Comfort working with various EMR and EHR systems beyond Athena.
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Work Environment
This role is fully onsite in a clinic environment, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work closely with providers, clinical staff, and front office personnel, using technologies such as the Athena electronic medical record system and other electronic medical and health record tools. The clinic setting is patient-focused and team-oriented, with an emphasis on collaboration and efficient patient flow. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
