Job Title: Oncology NurseJob Description
This role provides comprehensive coordination of care for chemotherapy and gynecologic oncology patients in a fast-paced clinical environment. The nurse ensures patients are prepared for treatment, supports providers in developing and implementing care plans, and delivers both clinical and administrative support to optimize patient outcomes and experience.
Responsibilities
Coordinate care for chemotherapy patients by confirming completion of required laboratory work prior to appointments to ensure timely scheduling and delivery of treatment.
Review pre-operative information and instructions with patients to ensure they understand procedures, preparation requirements, and post-operative expectations.
Conduct post-operative follow-up calls to assess patient status, address concerns, and reinforce care instructions.
Record patient vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes accurately and consistently in the medical record.
Gather comprehensive patient histories to support accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing care.
Schedule patient tests, procedures, and hospital admissions in alignment with provider orders and patient needs.
Schedule follow-up appointments to review and discuss test results with patients and providers.
Perform administrative duties including typing, filing, faxing, and reception to support smooth clinic operations.
Support providers in creating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care plans.
Maintain thorough and timely documentation for all assigned patient care activities in the electronic medical record or electronic health record.
Answer phone calls related to referrals and patient information, ensuring accurate communication and appropriate follow-up.
Collaborate with the medical assistant and other clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care across clinic locations.
Demonstrate strong customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues, maintaining a compassionate and professional demeanor at all times.
Essential Skills
3+ years of experience as a nurse.
2+ years of gynecology experience.
Experience working in oncology or oncology nursing.
Ability to provide care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work self-sufficiently.
Proficiency with medical terminology.
Competence in phlebotomy.
Experience using electronic medical record and electronic health record systems.
Strong administrative skills including typing, filing, faxing, and managing reception tasks.
Excellent customer service skills in a healthcare setting.
Texas State Board of Nursing license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bilingual language skills are a plus.
Experience coordinating care for chemotherapy patients.
Experience in patient rooming and clinical workflow in a healthcare setting.
Ability to collaborate effectively with providers and medical assistants to support patient care plans.
Strong communication skills for patient education, pre-operative counseling, and post-operative follow-up.
Comfort working across multiple clinic locations.
Work Environment
This position is based in a busy oncology clinic that emphasizes a supportive, team-oriented culture. The role operates Monday through Friday, typically from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the workday extending until the last patient is seen. There are no weekend shifts. The nurse supports providers and works closely with a medical assistant, splitting time between two clinic locations, with approximately one day per week at a secondary site on a rotating midweek schedule. The environment is fast paced and requires frequent use of electronic medical record and electronic health record systems, as well as standard clinical and administrative equipment for tasks such as phlebotomy, documentation, and communication. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $53.00/hr.
