Job Description
The Executive Director of the Foundation is responsible for developing relationships, partnerships, and resources to ensure strong community relations and support for the College's mission. The position leads the Northland Community and Technical College (NCTC) Foundation and associated student housing as well as other initiatives to promote public relations.
Serves as the Executive Director of the NCTC Foundation. As such, the position leads the College's resource development efforts with a major emphasis on private and philanthropic fundraising through the NCTC Foundation and by other means to accomplish Foundation and College goals. The position reports to the President and works under the direction of the Foundation Board of Directors. The Executive Director is the primary advisor to the President on all Foundation and fundraising initiative and serves on the President's Cabinet and Administrative Team. The Executive Director will promote a culture of caring, respect and innovation.
The Executive Director provides leadership in establishing and coordinating the activities of the Foundation at the direction of the Foundation Board. In addition, this person oversees the management of the college scholarship program, annual and planned giving, major gifts, and expansion of the endowed funds. The Executive Director takes direction from the Foundation Board regarding Foundation Board activities and priorities, within the authorities and responsibilities outlined in the position description, Foundation Board policy, system policy and procedure, and applicable state law. The Executive Director develops, builds and maintains relationships within the area, region, state, and national foundations that support the goals of the College and Foundation Board.
The Executive Director must have the ability to raise private funds working with and through the Foundation Board and College President. The Executive Director must be able to effectively plan, organize, and implement successful fund-raising events. This person must also work well in a team situation to develop materials that meet the needs of external customers and the campuses. Needs to have the ability to provide leadership to a team which includes the college employees and students at the East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls campuses.
Direct and administer the fund-raising activities of the NCTC Foundation.
Direct and administer the administrative activities of the Foundation.
Develop and administer budget/business plan.
Provide organizational leadership
Exercise supervision so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered and employees will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve section objectives.
Direct and administer all initiatives and programs of the Foundation, including the student housing complex, student food pantry, etc.
Salary Range:
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 3-years of related experience
fundraising with demonstrated success in securing gifts from individuals, corporations and small businesses
Demonstrated experience in donor/prospect cultivation and solicitation
Master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; Associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience.
Demonstrated experience with QuickBooks accounting software.
Proven skills in in financial management and budgeting in order to provide fiscal direction; as well as, investment management and understanding accounting principles and financial reports experience.
Strong written, presentation and oral communications skills
Ability to understand, manage and communicate financial information
Excellent leadership and management skills
Preferred Qualification
Knowledge and familiarity with the northwest region of the State of MN
Comprehensive knowledge of non-profit organization financial and accounting processes and charitable giving laws such as IRS code 501c(3), IRS donation rules for both cash and non-cash donations, and/or Professional; Licensure/Certification: Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
Experience in major giving campaigns for scholarships and capital campaigns
Professional work experience in an educational environment
Successful supervisory experience
Business administration, public relations experience
Knowledge of NCTC policies structure
