Job Summary

Health Promotion at CU Boulder encourages applications for an Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Early Intervention Educator ! This role is responsible for facilitating individual and small-group early intervention classes through Health Promotion. This role supports both mandated and voluntary student participants, using motivational interviewing as a core strategy in all sessions.

Programs facilitated may include (but are not limited to): the Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP), Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), BASICS, iCHAMP, Alcohol Impact Circle, Exploring Substance Use Workshop, and Nicotine Coaching.

Key responsibilities include scheduling and leading AOD early intervention sessions, conducting one-on-one student meetings, tracking and documenting student participation and completion, and maintaining consistent communication with Health Promotion staff regarding scheduling, programmatic needs, and any challenges that arise.

Who We Are

The Division of Student Life (https://www.colorado.edu/studentlife/about-division-student-life) consists of 36 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.

Health Promotion provides outreach and education on a variety of health topics. We support students in learning skills to make informed decisions about their health to help them succeed while in school and beyond. Health Promotion collaborates with student groups and campus departments in providing programs and services that positively influence student health. Our workshops can be requested by student groups, residence halls and other campus organizations.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Conduct one-on-one and small group classes with students using motivational interviewing techniques. In times of year when there are fewer sessions this position will:

Support development of early intervention workshops for high-risk groups.

Support students in outreach for Buffs Discuss.

Support students in other early intervention programs and support development of creative early intervention program idea.

Respond to clinical and community referrals.

Support projects identified by supervisor.

Manage communication with students related to scheduling, attendance, missed appointments, referral sources.

Participate in division and department meetings, AOD facilitator group supervision, new employee/intern training, professional development, and other training as appropriate.

What You Should Know

This part-time position is 28 hours per week and may work in a hybrid work modality. 17 hours per week will be worked in office and 11 hours per week may be worked remotely. Work will happen between 8am-5pm Monday-Friday and there is flexibility within that timeframe to schedule the 28 working hours.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this 70% time position is $35,568 - $37,730 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Life division guidelines.

What We Require

Bachelor's in psychology, health promotion, social work or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

Experience having one-on-one conversations with individuals in a clinical or educational setting.

What You Will Need

Motivational Interviewing skills.

Familiarity with alcohol- and other drug-use patterns and harm reduction strategies.

Good verbal and written communication skills.
