Job Description
This contract Customer Service Representative role focuses on high-volume order administration and customer support for a life sciences-focused organization in San Diego. You will manage the full order lifecycle in a structured, process-driven environment, entering and tracking orders in a database or order management system while responding to customer inquiries via phone and email. This position offers the opportunity to join a large, collaborative cohort as part of a major system implementation and team expansion, contributing directly to efficient order fulfillment and strong customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Process a high volume of daily customer orders accurately into a database or order management system, ensuring all information is complete and correct.
Manage the full order lifecycle from receipt through fulfillment, including verifying details, monitoring status, and ensuring timely completion.
Identify order issues, discrepancies, and errors quickly and work to resolve them accurately to minimize impact on fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
Handle customer inquiries professionally across multiple channels, including inbound phone calls and email, while maintaining a high level of service quality.
Navigate customer frustration related to order issues, provide clear explanations, and work toward effective resolutions that maintain trust and satisfaction.
Perform data entry in a structured, process-driven environment, following established procedures and adapting to a new system implementation.
Maintain strict confidentiality of customer information and order data in all interactions and system activities.
Collaborate closely with a large customer service team and onboard as part of a group of new hires to support increased order management demands.
Follow standardized workflows and documentation requirements associated with the new order management system and related processes.
Contribute to a fast-paced, high-volume environment by prioritizing tasks effectively and managing time efficiently across orders and customer communications.
Essential Skills
1-2 years of experience in customer service or order administration.
Hands-on experience processing a high volume of daily orders into a database or order management system.
Proven ability to manage the full order lifecycle from receipt through fulfillment, including issue identification and resolution.
Demonstrated experience handling customer inquiries via both inbound phone calls and email simultaneously.
Strong customer service skills, including polished communication, patience, and professional phone etiquette.
High level of accuracy and efficiency in data entry within a structured, process-driven environment.
Ability to work comfortably with a new system implementation and follow defined procedures.
Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of customer information.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred, particularly in life sciences or a related field.
Experience in the life sciences or biotechnology industry preferred.
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume order management environment.
Familiarity with database management and order administration tools.
Ability to handle customer frustration and resolve order-related problems calmly and effectively.
Comfort working as part of a large cohort onboarding group, with strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Work Environment
This role is based in San Diego in a professional, fast-paced order management environment. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with work performed remotely on Mondays and Fridays and onsite from Tuesday through Thursday. Exact shift schedules vary across the team and will be confirmed prior to start. You will join a growing customer service team that is expanding to support a new system implementation and increased order volume, with 12 new hires preferred to onboard together as a group. The environment is structured and process-driven, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, confidentiality of customer data, and consistent adherence to established procedures.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
