Job Title: 2nd Shift Shear Operator
Job Description
This role supports a weld and fabrication shop that manufactures custom-built emergency vehicles. You will operate shear and related machinery, interpret blueprints and schematics, and help ensure that components are cut and prepared accurately to meet customer specifications. The position focuses on precise machine operation, basic troubleshooting, and effective use of hand and air-powered tools on a fast-moving production line during 2nd shift.
Responsibilities
Operate shear equipment safely and efficiently to cut materials according to specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to build and lay out jobs accurately.
Use a tape measure to perform precise measurements and verify material dimensions.
Apply basic math skills, including adding and subtracting fractions, to ensure accurate cuts and layouts.
Perform routine troubleshooting on shear machines and related equipment to resolve operational issues.
Operate various air-powered tools such as grinders, sanders, rivet guns, and saws as needed for fabrication tasks.
Follow detailed work instructions and job lists to complete assigned tasks within designated time frames.
Coordinate work within a cell-based production environment to keep the line moving on schedule.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards.
Support the fabrication process by preparing materials and components for downstream welding and assembly operations.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of shear operation experience.
At least 2 years of machine troubleshooting experience.
At least 1 year of experience using a tape measure in a production or fabrication environment.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for building and laying out jobs.
Proficiency in reading a tape measure and performing basic math, including adding and subtracting fractions.
Ability to operate air-powered tools such as grinders, sanders, rivet guns, and saws.
Comfort working in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment with defined production cycles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a weld or fabrication shop environment.
Background in manufacturing custom or made-to-order products.
Familiarity with cell-based production lines and takt-time driven processes.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work effectively on 2nd shift as part of a production team.

Work Environment
The facility is a clean, organized manufacturing plant with clearly defined cells for different stages of emergency vehicle assembly. The weld and fabrication shop is located at the back of the plant and serves as the starting point for most jobs. Production is highly deadline-oriented, with each cell receiving a list of tasks that must be completed within a three-hour cycle to keep the line moving on schedule. The main manufacturing area is not climate controlled, so temperatures can become very warm during the summer months. You will work with shear machines, various air-powered tools, and standard hand tools in a structured, fast-paced environment focused on meeting production targets.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
