Job Description
North Hennepin Community College, one of the most diverse and vibrant two-year colleges in Minnesota, is accepting applications for a temporary part-time technical director (theatre) faculty member position .
The Theatre, Film, and Television Department at NHCC seeks a qualified individual to provide technical direction for theater productions, stage management for performing arts, and coordination for the use of campus theater spaces for the college and outside rentals. Ideal candidates will also have an interest in teaching Stagecraft classes and overseeing technical theatre practicums. Applicants will seek to join a creative, energetic, and student-centered academic team that consistently delivers high-quality support to both major and non-major students in a diverse environment. The successful candidate will:
Teach Stagecraft class in the fall semester and oversee technical theatre practicums in the fall and spring semesters.
Teach with an inclusive and equity-minded approach.
Work with faculty/directors of stage productions to design and build sets and scenery for two productions a year and provide support during the live performances.
Maintain the technical assets of performance spaces, including lighting, sound, fly system, scene shop, and shop tools.
Keep the scene shop area neat, organized, and inventoried.
Supervise and advise students and others in the scene shop and on the stage.
Recruit, train, and assign volunteers and/or paid technical staff to work on shows, including practicum students.
Order supplies and, with department support, maintain the theater production and instructional budgets.
Coordinate the use of campus theater spaces with the administrative specialist.
Be committed to student success and persistence.
Develop and revise instructional and assessment materials.
Be available days, evenings, and weekends.
Salary Range:
Salary is determined in accordance with the MSCF Collective Bargaining Agreement and is based on the candidate's education and related experience. This part-time position is considered 45% - 60% of a full-time faculty salary each semester, depending on workload.
As per the 2025-2027 MSCF contract, a faculty member who meets the eligibility requirements for temporary part-time status can earn a per-credit rate ranging from $1,435.57 to $2,396.43 if they have not been formally salary-placed under the MSCF contract prior to employment. MSCF faculty who have been salary-placed may earn up to $3,288.67 per credit.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Theatre/Theatre Arts, or
Master's degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in Theatre/Theatre Arts.
Preferred Qualification
Master's degree in Theatre/Theatre Arts with a Technical or Design emphasis
Experience as a primary instructor teaching college-level Technical Theatre courses.
Experience and background in technical directing and set design.
Knowledge of theatre production and business operations.
Evidence of commitment to student success and persistence.
Knowledge of contemporary teaching/learning techniques for undergraduate success.
Experience with learner outcomes assessment and evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to educate adult learners, multi-lingual learners, students with disabilities, and international students.
Experience serving diverse and historically underserved populations.
Working knowledge of alternative instructional techniques and delivery methods such as education platforms (D2L Brightspace), active learning strategies, etc.
