Hiring for a PCB Data Management Engineer in West Hartford!
Job Description
This role focuses on creating, maintaining, and improving schematic symbols and PCB footprints that support new product development, production support, and component obsolescence activities. You will work within the Electronic Packaging and Components Engineering group and collaborate closely with multiple engineering functions to ensure that centralized ECAD libraries are accurate, consistent, and aligned with industry and internal standards.
Responsibilities
Create accurate schematic symbols and physical PCB footprints for electronic components based on vendor datasheets and established internal standards, and publish them to the centralized library for use by design engineers.
Verify and validate schematic symbols and physical footprints created by others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with defined standards.
Process CAD library requests for new components and analyze or modify existing library parts to improve schematic readability and the producibility of physical shapes within the system.
Ensure all library content complies with IPC-7351 and other applicable standards, as well as internal guidelines for electronic packaging and components.
Provide system and user support for ECAD tools and library processes, assisting engineers and other stakeholders in effective use of the tools.
Plan and manage work to meet or exceed on-time delivery requirements by effectively scheduling resources and proactively communicating progress and potential risks.
Identify and resolve project issues related to component libraries, ECAD tools, and PCB data in a timely and structured manner.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to align library content with electrical design workflows, manufacturing requirements, and quality expectations.
Contribute to continuous improvement of library processes, standards, and documentation to enhance consistency, reliability, and efficiency across projects.
Essential Skills
Electrical engineering background with an electronics-related certificate or degree.
5+ years of experience working with electronics, with a strong focus on database and library-related work rather than solely layout.
5+ years of experience developing schematic symbols and physical library parts for schematic capture and PCB layout.
5+ years of hands-on experience with Mentor Graphics PADS layout tools (VX2.4 or greater).
Proficiency with Mentor Graphics PADS ECAD environment for PCB and electrical design workflows.
Experience using IPC-7351 for footprint creation and adherence to footprint standards.
Experience with IPC-610 requirements and their application to PCB design and manufacturing.
Strong understanding of PCB technology, including PCB layout, PCB manufacturing, and PCB board considerations.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and demonstrate clear, effective communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFT (Design for Test), and DFA (Design for Assembly) is a plus.
Knowledge of electronic components, PCB technology, screening processes, and quality standards is highly beneficial.
Familiarity with parts selection practices and Product Data Management (PDM) systems is a plus.
Experience as a PCB designer is a strong plus and will help in understanding layout constraints and manufacturing considerations.
Exposure to ECAD library management best practices and centralized library governance is advantageous.
Ability to troubleshoot ECAD tool issues and support users in resolving library-related problems.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when interpreting vendor datasheets and translating them into accurate library content.
Work Environment
The role operates in a primarily onsite, business casual environment within a collaborative engineering setting. You will work closely with electrical and packaging engineering teams and will require consistent access to ECAD tools and centralized libraries. There is potential for hybrid flexibility, with the option for 1-2 days of remote work per week pending approval through internal HR processes. The position supports a critical internal function across electrical design workflows in a modern aerospace-focused environment that offers benefits such as flexible time off, stock options, and a centrally located facility near a variety of restaurants.
