Job Title: Shift Mechanic
Job Description
The Shift Mechanic maintains and repairs high-speed production equipment in a large manufacturing environment that produces paper-based packaging. This role focuses on troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing changeovers, ensuring consistent product quality, and supporting continuous production across multiple shifts. The mechanic works closely with production teams to minimize downtime, keep equipment running safely and efficiently, and complete required production and maintenance documentation.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot mechanical issues on production machinery and assist in repairs to keep lines running efficiently.
Unjam production lines and safely clear material blockages to restore normal operation.
Rethread production lines and ensure proper web alignment when material breaks or is changed.
Replace worn or broken components such as drive belts, bearings, and related mechanical parts.
Manage product changeovers to reduce downtime, including changing paper sizes and adjusting multiple areas of the manufacturing line.
Perform general maintenance on machines and other production equipment as required to support reliable operation.
Complete required production and maintenance reports using basic computer applications.
Use basic computer skills, including Excel and Outlook, to enter data, review information, and communicate with management.
Navigate and comprehend Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, including interpreting error codes and faults.
Adjust machine settings through the HMI, including changing speeds, programs, and operating parameters.
Learn and use web-based operating systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar tools to support production and maintenance activities.
Perform splicing in various areas of the production line when raw materials run out, including paper rolls, release liner, and label stock.
Monitor product flow through the production line to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
Maintain a safe, clean work environment and apply a basic understanding of 5S principles.
Operate a forklift to move materials and products as needed, with training provided.
Wear appropriate dress and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in accordance with safety requirements.
Support packaging and production processes for paper-based industrial, commercial, and e-commerce bags and envelopes.
Assist with general labor, production, and assembly tasks as needed to support overall operations.
Use hand tools and mechanical assembly skills to repair and adjust equipment.
Perform any other duties consistent with the nature of the job or as required by the supervisor.
Essential Skills
Mechanical aptitude with a strong interest in working with tools and mechanical systems, ideally with 3+ years of experience.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment in environments such as automotive repair, aviation repair, or large-scale automation.
Hands-on experience running and repairing large-scale automation such as assembly lines and conveyor systems.
Understanding of drive motors and their role in powering production equipment.
Knowledge of belt and pulley systems and their maintenance and replacement.
Ability to work with free-spinning and motor-driven rolls and understand their function within the production line.
Experience replacing roll bearings and understanding their importance in smooth machine operation.
Basic machine operation skills in a manufacturing or production setting.
Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts safely.
Proficiency using hand tools for mechanical repair and adjustment.
Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Excel and Outlook.
Ability to navigate and understand Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, including reading error codes and making adjustments.
Ability to complete production and maintenance reports accurately for management.
Basic understanding of 5S principles and commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Capability to perform physical tasks associated with production, assembly, and general labor.
Comfort working in a large manufacturing environment with production and packaging equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in automotive repair, providing strong hands-on mechanical experience.
Experience in aviation repair, offering familiarity with complex mechanical systems and high safety standards.
Experience with print application systems on production lines is a plus.
Experience with glue or adhesive application systems is a plus.
Familiarity with SAP, Oracle, or other web-based operating systems used in manufacturing is an advantage.
Experience in packaging, mechanical assembly, or construction environments.
Exposure to industrial and commercial paper-based packaging, such as bags for building materials, food products, or e-commerce shipments.
Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and technologies in a growing manufacturing operation.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large manufacturing facility that produces paper-based packaging, including industrial and commercial paper bags for building materials, food products, and e-commerce envelopes and bags. The environment involves working around high-speed production lines, conveyor systems, and automation equipment. Multiple shifts are available, including daylight (approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), mid shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.), and night shift (approximately 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.). Team members use hand tools, forklifts, and machine interfaces such as HMIs and web-based systems like SAP or Oracle. The facility emphasizes safety and cleanliness, supported by 5S principles, and requires appropriate dress and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $53040.00 - $53040.00/yr.
