JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Charge Nurse
Department: LTCU
Supervisor: Director of Nursing
POSITION SUMMARY
Implement and deliver nursing care according to patients/residents
assessment and care
plan. Oversees activities of the certified nurse aide or licensed
practical nurse.
RESOPNSIBILITIES
1) Conduct and document initial observation and assessment in a timely
fashion.
Document ongoing assessment based upon patient/resident needs.
2) Follow the nursing care plan in coordination with other health care
team
members, based upon identified needs and established standards of care.
3) Implement nursing activities according to identified patient needs
and according
to established standards of care.
4) Maintain competence in skills required by this position including,
but not limited
to dressing changes, respiratory treatments, and basic life support
techniques.
5) Maintain accurate and concise documentation to reflect the condition
of patient,
interventions, and patients reaction to interventions.
6) Explain specific procedures to patients and obtain consent as
appropriate.
7) Provide education for patients and family according to identified
needs and
established standards of care.
8) Assist with discharge planning.
9) Receive physicians orders, transfer orders to appropriate forms,
submit dietary
request, process as charges as appropriate.
10) Monitor floor stock and supplies. Notify appropriate departments of
need for
replenishment.
11) Maintain a professional public image and attitude toward patients,
visitors, and
staff always.
12) Maintain patient/resident confidentiality.
13) Attending facility meetings as appropriate.
14) Participate in continuing education programs as appropriate and
available.
15) Must have the ability to work with others in a team environment.
16) Must be able to accept direction from supervisors and constructive
criticism.
DEGREE OF LATITUDE
Must frequently exercise independent judgment and be capable of applying
his/her
knowledge of nursing without guidance from others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is conducted in clean, well-lit rooms. May involve frequent
exposure to
communicable diseases, biologic hazards, and unpleasant patient
activities. Physical
demands include bending, stooping, moving patients, pushing and pulling
equipment.
Stress level may be high.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
Must maintain current licensure by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
Special Knowledge or Skills
Requires strong interpersonal skills, ability to exercise independently.
Must be able to
work under high stress levels.
Prior Experience
Prior nursing experience in hospital or LTCU setting desirable but not
required.
