Summary The position serves as a Maintenance Mechanic Work Leader in an extremely complex medical facility. The incumbent must have a thorough working knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of pumps and valves, including starting, stopping, monitoring, repair, maintenance and testing. They must have knowledge and skill to perform water chemistry analysis and the knowledge and ability to perform operational repairs, preventative and operational maintenance on equipment. Responsibilities The Maintenance Mechanic must be an experienced journeyman level Industrial Equipment Mechanic, Carpenter, and/or pipefitter with construction and/or maintenance background. Works closely with all new installations, in house projects, inspection and review of project blueprints, inspection of all contractor submittals, inspection of all contracted project work sites, and review of new equipment and materials submitted by vendors. Duties Include: Checks inventory of shop supplies and materials to ensure that proper amounts are on hand at all times. Orders needed equipment, parts and supplies to complete the repair. Assigs work orders; inspects equipment, and work areas. Planns methods and materials to be used, determining manpower requirements. Coordinates all manpower and materials necessary for fabrication, installation, modification, troubleshooting, testing, repair and maintenance of building and utility systems.fixtures. Ensure all shop employees are scheduled for mandatory training to include TMS and in person courses. Assume additional responsibilities and duties as shop or Medical Center needs dictate, or at the direction of the Service Chief and Operations Supervisor. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to lift upwards of 40 lbs unassisted from time to time in order to complete projects and work orders. Incumbent must frequently work in hot, humid, confined spaces around power boilers/chillers, piping, and their associated equipment. They must climb ladders and scaffolding, bend, crouch, stoop, and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Assignments may be in remote areas such as sub basements, machinery rooms, rooftops, roads and walkways. Incumbent works around and with hazardous mechanical and electrical equipment and electrical systems with the potential for serious injury and death. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, wet, cramped locations. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises, toxic fumes, gases, and acids. Subject to burns from steam lines, gas burning equipment, welding torches, and molten solder. Possibility of falls exist due to the work in high places. Subject to infections from unsanitary working areas such as sewers, waste traps, and lines. Must always be aware of safety hazards and know what action should be taken to avoid them. Must know how to comply with all safety factors of the trade to prevent fires and injury to patient and employees. Education There is no Educational Subsitution for this series and grade.
