BESS Principal EngineerHelp Drive the Future of Energy Storage
We are seeking a highly skilled BESS Principal Engineer to lead the design and execution of large-scale energy storage projects. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in advancing battery energy storage systems that support the growth of renewable energy and grid reliability.
In this position, you will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership and project management capabilities, guiding projects from concept through completion while influencing innovation and best practices across teams.
What You'll Do
Lead the design and engineering of major components for large-scale energy storage projects, ensuring solutions are technically sound and aligned with project goals
Review engineering drawings, identify inconsistencies, and implement improvements to enhance design quality and efficiency
Diagnose and resolve technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend enhancements for future designs and processes
Develop detailed technical scopes of work to support procurement, contracting, and construction activities
Partner closely with project managers and stakeholders to deliver projects on schedule and within performance expectations
Provide technical leadership and direction across multidisciplinary teams
Track project milestones, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to integrate major equipment into project designs
Support troubleshooting efforts and identify opportunities to optimize performance and cost
Interpret specifications and ensure clear communication of technical requirements across internal and external teams
Navigate permitting requirements and help address regulatory and compliance challenges
Travel approximately 25 percent for site visits, project reviews, and collaboration
What You Bring
At least 3 years of experience in solar or photovoltaic engineering and/or construction
Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas such as power electronics, battery storage design, substation design, or generation tie-in design
Experience delivering energy storage projects, including battery energy storage systems
Ability to independently manage complex technical work and make sound decisions with minimal supervision
Proven experience supporting cross-functional teams and providing engineering leadership
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for a variety of audiences
Solid project management abilities, including scheduling, risk management, and stakeholder coordination
Additional Qualifications
Familiarity with energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion systems, and DC/DC converters
Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards such as UL1973, UL9540, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, and relevant building and fire codes
Understanding of IEC standards related to energy storage and electrical systems
Experience working with equipment vendors and integrating their solutions into large-scale projects
Exposure to permitting processes and regulatory considerations for energy projects
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement
Comfortable working in a collaborative, corporate environment across engineering, construction, and operations teams

Work Environment
This role operates within a collaborative and technically driven environment focused on large-scale solar and energy storage development. The preferred location is Juno Beach, with flexibility for remote candidates who can travel more frequently as needed.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders using modern tools and structured processes. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, with approximately 25 percent travel required for project coordination, site visits, and technical reviews.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $70.00/hr.
