THIS IS A SPONSORED POSITION TO AN ACCREDITED POLICE ACADEMY. THE AURARIA CAMPUS POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL PAY FOR ALL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ARAPAHOE COMMUNITY COLLEGE POLICE ACADEMY AND PAY THE SALARY FOR SELECTED APPLICANTS.
This position is located in the Auraria Campus Police Department. The Auraria Campus Police Department provides the full spectrum of Law Enforcement services (emergency, non-emergency, technical and communications support) to the Auraria Campus Community as State of Colorado Peace Officers. This position requires rotating shift work. You must be willing and able to work shift work.

Personal History Questionnaire:Applicants selected to advance in the process must complete and submit a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). The PHQ does not need to be notarized prior to submission and will be notarized at the time of interview.
Essential Functions:
The Police Officer in training position responds to a variety of civil matters as well as enforces applicable local, state, and federal laws. Duties include writing reports; performing preliminary investigations; collecting evidence; responding to various alarms; detecting and arresting wrongdoers; and community policing activities. The Auraria Campus Police Department employs various policing methods including foot, bike and vehicle patrol. Additionally, officers perform crowd management functions at a large number of special events.
This position is also required to participate in ongoing training in a variety of law enforcement practices and techniques. Police Officers at Auraria Campus must qualify in firearms proficiency on a quarterly basis. Police Officers in training are training officers and require a satisfactory completion of a training period before advancing to an Officer I with one year experience.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year of customer based full-time experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent to at least one (1) year of full-time customer service or customer-facing experience.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
High School diploma or GED.
Must possess a valid unencumbered Colorado driver's license at the time of application.

Additional Special Requirements:
Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Physical and psychological evaluations are required in accordance with section 24-31-303 (5)(b), CRS.
In order to be eligible to apply, applicants must possess a valid and unencumbered Colorado driver's license at the time of application.
Conditions of Employment:
The selected applicant must be willing to sign a contract that allows the Auraria Police Department to seek reimbursement of the cost of the Law Enforcement Academy if the employee terminates employment in less than two (2) years from the completion of the Auraria Police Department FTO program.
Positions require a personal and employment background investigation which may include polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.
The Background Investigation is part of the exam process. The policy of Auraria Police Services is to apply uniform standards of integrity and conduct to all employees without regard to assignment within the agency. Candidates must pass the minimum employment standards for Police Officers to continue in the examination and interviewing process.
This position requires pre-employment background and credit investigation (personal and employment history). Applicants must submit a complete background investigation that will include a personal and employment background check for various security clearances including Colorado Crime Information (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance. This investigation will include a polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.
Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful passing of a physical and psychological examination by a licensed doctor or healthcare facility. The health care facility will be selected or approved by the Auraria Campus Police Department in order to determine whether the prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
Applicants must not have received a failing result on a psychological evaluation within the preceding 12 months.
Applicants must not have experienced involuntary termination from any position within the last preceding 12 months.
This person selected for this position must maintain their ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
