The Department of Corrections is hiring up to two Accounting Officer Intermediates! The position is responsible for the day-to-day financial management and the fiscal activities of Facilities and Central Office divisions, including budget management, financial reporting, and various other ad hoc budget functions to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, State of Minnesota laws as well as State and Department directives.
Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience performing budget development, preparation, or monitoringOR
Three (3) years of experience performing support functions in budget development, preparation, or monitoring
*An associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field may substitute for six (6) months of experience. A bachelors degree in one of the above may substitute for one (1) year of experience, or a master's degree in one of the above may substitute for 18 months of experience.
Applicants who meet the above requirements will be further evaluated on the following:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to interpret fiscal information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
Attention to detail, organizational skills, and a high degree of accuracy in working with numbers and crucial recordkeeping on a daily basis.
Skills in using the Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or other accounting system sufficient to query and compile records and reports and assist with the preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget requests.
Skills in using the Statewide Employee Management System (SEMA4) or a similar human resources/payroll system sufficient to query and compile records and reports.
Oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with management and staff at all levels.
Skills with word processing, spreadsheet and databases (preferably Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access) sufficient to prepare and update reports and create correspondence.
Ability to research, interpret, and analyze state laws, policies, rules, regulations, and procedures as they relate to fiscal operations
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Experience working with the Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT)
Experience analyzing data and writing reports using tools, such as SWIFT's Data Warehouse (OBIEE), and MS Excel.
Experience working with the statewide employee management system (SEMA4).
Knowledge of Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting.
Physical Requirements
