Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Job Description
The Construction Superintendent leads all on-site operations for multiple commercial, light industrial, and retail projects, serving as the primary point of contact for owners, designers, subcontractors, and inspectors. This role drives project success by ensuring that quality, schedule, and budget goals are consistently achieved while maintaining strong relationships with all project stakeholders. Responsibilities
Oversee daily job site activities and ensure all on-site operations run safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans and specifications.
Coordinate and schedule all trades and subcontractors, ensuring proper sequencing of work and resolving field conflicts promptly.
Lead and direct field teams, including setting up crews, assigning tasks, and monitoring performance and productivity.
Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for owners, designers, subcontractors, and inspectors, maintaining clear and professional communication at all times.
Attend and actively participate in subcontractor and owner meetings, providing updates on progress, schedule, safety, and quality.
Prepare and complete accurate daily reports documenting manpower, work performed, inspections, issues, and site conditions.
Manage field communication and information flow between the job site, project management, and key stakeholders.
Support pre-construction efforts, including participation in design coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and value engineering discussions.
Assist with estimating and schedule development during pre-construction to ensure realistic timelines and resource planning.
Manage core construction processes such as submittals and RFIs, ensuring timely review, response, and implementation in the field.
Implement and enforce site safety plans, procedures, and standards, promoting a strong safety culture and compliance with OSHA requirements.
Oversee project documentation in the field, including drawings, specifications, logs, and records, ensuring that the latest information is used for construction.
Lead regular progress meetings with subcontractors and project stakeholders to review milestones, address issues, and keep the project on track.
Monitor and enforce subcontractor performance, addressing quality, schedule, and safety concerns promptly and effectively.
Drive project timelines by proactively identifying potential delays and implementing corrective actions to maintain or recover schedule.
Ensure high-quality workmanship by regularly inspecting work in place and enforcing quality control standards.
Oversee development, completion, and tracking of punch lists, ensuring all items are resolved to the satisfaction of the owner and design team.
Manage project closeout activities, including final inspections, documentation, and turnover, to ensure timely and successful project completion.
Provide excellent internal and external customer service, building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with owners, consultants, and subcontractors.
Apply knowledge of general construction techniques for sitework, commercial office, light industrial, and retail projects, including site development activities.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience as a construction superintendent.
10-15 years of experience overseeing commercial construction projects, with a focus on ground-up, vertical construction.
Demonstrated experience working with general contractors or real estate developers in a field supervision or superintendent capacity.
Strong knowledge of general construction techniques for sitework, commercial office, light industrial, and retail projects.
Knowledge of site development processes and requirements.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Demonstrated track record of providing excellent internal and external customer service and building effective working relationships.
Hands-on experience in construction management, including scheduling, subcontractor management, and field supervision.
Ability to manage submittals, RFIs, safety programs, and project documentation effectively.
Strong safety awareness, including familiarity with OSHA standards and practices; OSHA 30-level safety knowledge is highly valued.
Solid understanding of quality control principles and the ability to enforce workmanship standards in the field.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to lead meetings and document site activities clearly.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to direct field teams and subcontractors toward common project goals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Extensive experience and knowledge in real estate development and commercial construction are highly desirable.
Experience using construction and project management software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, and Yardi.
Procore certification or equivalent training is a strong plus.
Familiarity with design software commonly used by consultants, such as AutoCAD and Revit, to aid in coordination and interpretation of design documents.
Experience with general contractor operations, including safety, quality control, and field supervision best practices.
Ability to collaborate directly with executive staff and contribute to strategic project and portfolio decisions.
Interest in diversifying project portfolio across commercial, light industrial, and retail sectors.

Work Environment
This role is primarily based on-site and in the field, overseeing active construction projects. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional weekend work as needed to meet project schedules and milestones. The position involves regular travel to job sites within the Midwest, with travel expenses covered. The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, centered around commercial, light industrial, and retail construction sites that require consistent attention to safety, quality, and coordination. You will work closely with executive staff and project teams in a culture that values long-term relationships, professional growth, and a strong sense of ownership over project outcomes. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.80 - $62.50/hr.
