Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for technical and administrative support of the District's Victim Witness Program. Typical work assignments will include: Responding to victim inquiries via phone, e-mail, letters and fax, providing initial screening of victim concerns, and determining program eligibility for victim-witness services. Providing information to victims on schedule changes, status of defendant's pleas, results of trial; opportunities to address the court, and post-sentencing notification. Orienting victims to the Crime Victim Compensation Program' and providing information on how to contact the program and how to submit an application. Coordinating with law enforcement agencies to assist victims with the return of their property being held as evidence, or to obtain copies of reports for securing services and assistance. Providing information on restitution to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and forwarding Victim Impact Statements to U.S. Probation. Inputting victim data into applicable database(s), and produces notification documents using the automated victim notification system. Maintains a calendar of active victim cases which includes keeping track of hearings, trial dates, and sentencing dates. Providing direct administrative and program support to one or more Victim-Witness staff members. - Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-7 To be eligible for the GS-7, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as tracking the status of a case at various stages; assisting with trial preparation to include making contact with victims and/or witnesses to schedule meetings, drafting letters to provide information on the progress of a case and correspondence and coordinating and tracking travel arrangements through a shared database.
