Job Title: Senior AccountantJob Description
The Senior Accountant oversees key project accounting activities, with a strong focus on Work in Progress (WIP) management, client billing, and financial reporting in a service-based revenue environment. This role supports the full accounting cycle, including payroll, month-end and year-end close, and contract administration for clients and subconsultants. The Senior Accountant also plays an important role in identifying process improvements, strengthening financial controls, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial information.
Responsibilities
Oversee and maintain Work in Progress (WIP) schedules, ensuring accurate tracking of project status, revenue recognition, and cost allocation.
Prepare, review, and issue client invoices, ensuring billing accuracy, contract compliance, and timely submission.
Manage client and subconsultant contracts, including setup, documentation, compliance monitoring, and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
Support client receipts and collections by assisting with payment application, conducting follow-ups, and resolving outstanding balances.
Process payroll accurately and on schedule, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and adherence to internal policies.
Assist with financial reporting by preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and clear variance explanations.
Support month-end and year-end close activities by preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and validating financial data.
Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned to support overall department operations.
Identify, recommend, and help implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and workflow consistency across the accounting function.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure data integrity, resolve discrepancies, and strengthen financial controls.
Manage Work in Progress (WIP) activity and reporting to provide timely insights into project performance.
Assist with client receipts and collections to support strong cash flow and customer satisfaction.
Process payroll and related entries, ensuring accurate recording in the general ledger.
Assist with financial analysis to support management decision-making.
Support construction and project-focused teams with project accounting needs, including WIP, invoicing, and reconciliations.
Provide professional customer service to internal and external stakeholders regarding accounting and billing inquiries.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
At least 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within a service-based revenue model.
Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Demonstrated experience with project accounting and Work in Progress (WIP) management.
Experience with invoicing, collections, and month-end reconciliations.
Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and maintain data integrity.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
Supervisory or managerial experience is a plus.
Experience working within a construction or project-based environment is beneficial.
Experience with Deltek software is preferred but not required.
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
Strong customer service orientation when working with internal and external stakeholders.

This position operates in a hybrid work environment that combines remote work with time in a professional office setting. The role relies heavily on computer-based work, using tools such as Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and may involve working with Deltek or similar project accounting software. The schedule is typically based on a standard 40-hour workweek, with additional incentive pay available for hours worked beyond that. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $43.27/hr.
