Cable Technician - Immediately Hiring - San Diego, CA
Job Description
This role supports ongoing Navy maintenance and modernization efforts in a busy shipyard environment in San Diego. You will assist skilled trades with cable installation and routing aboard vessels, perform general labor tasks, and help maintain a clean and safe work area. The position is hands-on and physically demanding, requiring consistent attention to safety, reliability, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, industrial setting.
Responsibilities
Assist with installing, routing, and pulling cables through shipboard systems, including cableways, ducts, and bulkheads.
Support electricians and other skilled trades by organizing, transporting, and staging tools, equipment, and materials.
Perform general labor duties such as cleaning work areas, handling materials, and setting up and breaking down job sites.
Act as Fire Watch during hot work operations by monitoring work areas, maintaining situational awareness, and following all fire safety protocols.
Work safely in confined spaces, elevated areas, and active shipyard conditions while following all safety procedures and instructions.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment aboard vessels and in yard areas.
Follow shipyard safety rules and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to confined space and fire watch protocols.
Support daily shipyard operations by responding to direction from supervisors and trades, adapting to changing priorities, and completing assigned tasks on schedule.
Participate in overtime and variable shift work as needed to meet project timelines and operational demands.
Essential Skills
Experience in shipyard, construction, or industrial environments for 6 months to 2+ years is preferred.
Hands-on cable pulling experience, including routing and pulling cable through shipboard systems, is preferred.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and work in tight or confined spaces on a regular basis.
Demonstrated ability to work safely in high-noise, high-activity industrial environments.
Knowledge of basic electricity concepts to support electrical trades and cable installation tasks.
Strong commitment to safety, including adherence to fire watch, PPE, and confined space protocols.
Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic, with a consistent record of showing up on time and completing assigned tasks.
Ability to work overtime and variable shifts based on project needs.
Prior experience supporting Navy or commercial ship repair programs is highly preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous shipyard experience, including ship repair or shipbuilding, is preferred.
Experience in general labor roles in industrial, construction, or maritime environments.
Familiarity with NAVSEA standards and practices is beneficial.
Cable handling certification is a plus.
Exposure to or experience working alongside multiple trades such as electrical, rigging, and mechanical.
Comfort working in active naval shipyard environments and onboard vessels.
Ability to follow detailed instructions from supervisors and skilled trades while working independently when required.
Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members in a busy, multi-trade environment.

Work Environment
You will work in an active naval shipyard environment in San Diego, supporting projects on and around vessels. The setting includes both outdoor areas and onboard shipboard spaces, with a high level of activity and noise from multiple trades working simultaneously. You will frequently operate in confined spaces, on ladders, and in elevated areas, and will move between different parts of the shipyard and vessels throughout the day. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, and strict adherence to safety protocols is expected. Typical schedules are first-shift hours with frequent overtime, and work may involve variable shifts depending on project needs. The environment is industrial, fast-paced, and physically demanding, suited to individuals who are comfortable working in a shipyard and maritime setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
