THE POSITION
Start a rewarding path as a Utility Plant Operator 2 with the Department of Human Services (DHS) at the Torrance State Hospital. This position gives you the chance to operate boilers and critical equipment that support daily hospital functions. Your work helps maintain comfort and dependable service for the entire facility. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position operates and maintains steam boilers and related equipment to support essential heating and hot water needs at Torrance State Hospital. As a Utility Plant Operator 2, you will perform the following duties:
Boiler Operation:Run boilers and auxiliary equipment to maintain steam levels for hospital heating and hot water
Shift Oversight:Assist plant staff and monitor operations during assigned shifts
Equipment Monitoring:Check plant systems, take readings, and document gauge information in shift logs
Water Treatment:Test and chemically treat boiler water to protect equipment and maintain performance
Maintenance Support:Complete preventive tasks and assist with equipment repairs when needed
Safety Compliance:Follow required safety rules and ensure safe operation of all power house systems

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
Work hours are 2nd shift (2:30 PM to 10:30 PM) Wednesday - Sunday. You will have Monday and Tuesday off.
You will be subject to emergency call-ins.
Overtime as required
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.
