The Construction Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of commercial and civic construction projects, from pre-construction planning through closeout. This role leads coordination with internal stakeholders and external project teams, manages project financials and schedules, and ensures work meets scope, quality, and safety standards. The position requires strong construction management expertise, financial acumen, and the ability to build and maintain effective client relationships.
Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external project teams throughout development and construction phases to ensure alignment, clear communication, and successful execution.
Oversee and coordinate subcontractor activities, ensuring work is completed on schedule, within scope, and in accordance with quality and performance standards.
Manage the full project financial lifecycle, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and maintaining project profitability.
Lead pre-construction activities such as planning, scope definition, and constructability reviews to set projects up for successful delivery.
Review and validate project budgets, ensuring scope accuracy, financial alignment, and appropriate allocation of resources.
Administer and manage change orders, RFIs, and other project documentation to maintain accurate records and control project scope and cost.
Promote and enforce company safety standards and training initiatives, ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations and requirements.
Maintain strong client relationships, serving as a primary point of contact and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Support and mentor team members by providing guidance, resources, and leadership to drive successful project outcomes.
Utilize project scheduling software, including Microsoft Project, to develop, monitor, and update project schedules.
Apply construction financial management systems to track project financials, monitor cost control, and support margin management.
Leverage working knowledge of estimating and cost analysis to support bid development, budget validation, and financial decision-making.
Ensure adherence to construction contracts, delivery methods, and general construction processes and standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues, mitigate risks, and keep projects on track.
Perform additional duties as required to support project and broader business needs.
Essential Skills
Proven experience in construction project management, preferably with general contractor experience on commercial and civic projects.
Strong understanding of project budgets and scopes, including cost control, margin management, and financial tracking.
Hands-on experience with construction management practices, including change orders, RFIs, estimation, and general construction processes.
Proficiency with project scheduling software, with Microsoft Project strongly preferred.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience using construction financial management systems to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
Solid understanding of construction contracts and delivery methods.
Familiarity with safety regulations, compliance standards, and the enforcement of safety programs.
Ability to coordinate and lead subcontractors and project teams to meet schedule, scope, and quality requirements.
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
OSHA 30 certification.
Professional certifications such as PE, CPM, LEED, or RCDD are preferred.
Experience with LEED and sustainability-focused construction practices is beneficial.
Experience working on commercial and civic projects in a general contractor environment.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and project metrics.
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Northeast Portland. The role operates in a professional office setting supporting active construction projects, utilizing tools such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, and construction financial management systems on a daily basis. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
