The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-13. At the GS-12 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-13. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provides guidance and direction in study design. Initiates studies by participating or directing protocol changes, the development of study operations manuals and the design and development of case report forms. Ensures high quality of research data and performs informatics and data processing activities. Analyzes collected data in order to elucidate significant factors, relationships and trends. Prepares cross tabulations or frequency listings of selected variables to assess the validity of data. Serves as an expert consultant and advisor to the Study Team. Works closely with the study team's statistical programmer and research associates to develop case report forms and data management procedures. Initiates and conducts research activities when appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION, YOU MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. A degree that included fifteen (15) semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least six (6) semester hours were in statistics), and nine (9) additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements will given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. ~OR~ B. Combination of education and experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Typically, we would find this experience in responsibilities that required performing a full range of professional statistical work. Specialized experience includes demonstrated work experience performing statistician work for health care research studies; broad knowledge and skill using complex statistical computer software and program development to analyze and manipulate data from a wide range of research studies; participating in the preparation of written reports and presentations that summarize the analysis of data; and assisting with preparation and dissemination of statistical results.
