The 3rd Shift Production Supervisor oversees multiple bakery production lines in a food manufacturing environment during the overnight shift from 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Sunday through Friday, with Saturday and one additional weekday off. This role leads a team of production employees, ensures safe and efficient operations, upholds quality and food safety standards, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. The supervisor maintains schedule flexibility to meet changing production demands, especially during peak seasons such as holidays.
Responsibilities
Supervise and lead production employees on 3rd shift in a food manufacturing and bakery environment.
Oversee the operation of multiple production lines that produce different products based on daily order demands.
Ensure production schedules are met by organizing labor, equipment, and materials effectively.
Write and manage employee work schedules to align staffing with production needs.
Train incoming quality and production employees on processes, procedures, and safety requirements.
Coach, mentor, and develop team members to support high performance and employee retention.
Implement and enforce quality standards, including adherence to SOPs, GMPs, and established quality control procedures.
Support and promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
Monitor production processes, identify issues, and take corrective actions to minimize downtime and waste.
Ensure compliance with food safety programs such as HACCP and SQF, and support related audits and documentation as needed.
Follow and reinforce OSHA and workplace safety standards, including safe operation of mixers, ovens, and other bakery equipment.
Collaborate with sanitation teams to coordinate equipment tear-down and cleaning requirements that impact production.
Communicate effectively with other shifts and departments to ensure smooth handoffs and consistent production flow.
Use Microsoft programs to complete reports, maintain records, and communicate production and quality information.
Model a hands-on leadership style by working alongside team members when needed and fostering a culture of respect and appreciation.
Essential Skills
5 or more years of supervisory experience within a food manufacturing facility.
Proven experience supervising production lines in a food and beverage manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience training employees in production and quality roles.
Experience implementing and maintaining quality standards in a manufacturing setting.
Experience following and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Experience with continuous improvement in production operations.
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in food production.
Working knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft programs (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
Ability to work 3rd shift (11:30 p.m.-8:00 a.m.) with schedule flexibility based on business needs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in a bakery environment with large mixers, ovens, and packaging operations.
Hands-on experience with production management, quality control, and packaging processes.
HACCP and SQF certifications are a plus.
Experience supporting or implementing HACCP and SQF food safety programs.
Ability to collaborate effectively with sanitation teams on equipment tear-down and cleaning requirements.
Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
Ability to thrive in a fast-growing company environment with evolving processes and expansion plans.
Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility with multiple bakery production lines, where each line produces different products according to daily order demands. The environment includes large mixers, ovens, and other production and packaging machinery, some of which must be taken apart and hand washed, creating close collaboration with the sanitation team. The position operates on 3rd shift from 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Sunday through Friday, with Saturday and one additional weekday off, and requires flexibility for additional hours during busy periods such as the holiday season. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
