Job Description
The Mechanical Maintenance Service Technician role is an onsite, hands-on position based in Louisville, responsible for maintaining and repairing custom-built machinery in an appliance manufacturing environment. You will diagnose and resolve mechanical and control system issues, support equipment installations and commissioning, and drive preventive maintenance and reliability initiatives to reduce downtime and improve productivity. This position requires strong diagnostic abilities, a solid understanding of mechanical and integrated systems, and the capacity to work effectively under time pressure in a fast-paced production setting.
Responsibilities
Respond promptly to urgent assistance requests on the production floor to diagnose and repair equipment faults, including mechanical and control system issues, in order to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
Deliver timely mechanical support during equipment breakdowns by identifying root causes, performing repairs, and verifying proper operation after service.
Support project installation and commissioning activities for new or modified equipment, working closely with project delivery teams to ensure smooth handovers into production.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive maintenance (PM) programs aimed at reducing equipment downtime and enhancing reliability.
Conduct scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance tasks in line with the PM plan, identify emerging issues, and take corrective actions before failures occur.
Continuously optimize preventive maintenance intervals and tasks to balance equipment reliability, efficiency, and resource utilization.
Analyze recurring equipment faults to identify root causes and recommend design or maintenance changes that improve long-term reliability.
Perform small-scale equipment modifications directly and coordinate or oversee external contractors for larger modifications when required.
Apply troubleshooting and system diagnostic techniques to complex mechanical and control problems and document findings and resolutions.
Write, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and fault-finding documents to support consistent troubleshooting and maintenance practices.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including operations and project personnel, to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to production.
Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders, providing technical guidance, status updates, and recommendations under time-sensitive conditions.
Essential Skills
5-10 years of experience working with high-technology or special-purpose machinery within manufacturing environments.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for mechanical and control systems in a production setting.
Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including moving assemblies and precision components used in custom machinery.
Solid understanding of control systems and their interaction with mechanical equipment.
Solid understanding of hydraulics and their application in industrial machinery.
Solid understanding of pneumatics and their application in industrial machinery.
Solid understanding of basic electrical components as they relate to mechanical and control systems.
Proficiency in performing equipment repair, maintenance, and diagnostic testing to restore and sustain reliable operation.
Experience in preventive maintenance, including planning, executing, and improving PM programs.
Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts as applied to manufacturing equipment.
Ability to write and maintain clear, structured SOPs and fault-finding documentation for maintenance and troubleshooting.
Strong verbal communication skills to explain technical issues and solutions to various stakeholders.
Strong written communication skills to document maintenance activities, procedures, and reports.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and coordinate with operations, engineering, and project personnel.
Ability to perform under time pressure and respond quickly to urgent maintenance needs in a production environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) systems is a plus.
Experience supporting equipment installation and commissioning activities in manufacturing environments.
Experience managing or coordinating external contractors for larger equipment modifications or upgrades.
Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset with a focus on reducing downtime and enhancing equipment performance.

Work Environment
This position is based onsite in a manufacturing facility in Louisville, working directly with custom-built, high-technology machinery used in appliance production. The workday includes responding to urgent equipment issues, performing scheduled preventive maintenance, and supporting installation and commissioning activities, often under time-sensitive conditions. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
