Job Title: Shift Maintenance Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting production machinery and related electrical and mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment. You will work hands-on with automated machine tools, power distribution, and support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The position also involves coordinating with engineering, vendors, and third-party contractors to optimize equipment performance and plant layout.
Responsibilities
Participate directly in the installation of new machinery and mechanical equipment used in plant operations.
Plan and guide others during machinery and equipment installation projects to ensure safe, timely, and accurate completion.
Install and maintain machines, control panels, switchboards, junction boxes, switches, and motors.
Test electrical circuits, interpret readings, and take corrective action to resolve issues and restore proper function.
Discuss test results and machine readings with outside machine tool manufacturers to obtain technical guidance and recommendations.
Work closely with engineering staff to coordinate changes to plant layout that require movement of machines and equipment controls.
Provide input on equipment placement, cost considerations, and time requirements to achieve optimal results for layout changes.
Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues associated with automated machine tools using diagnostic equipment and technical documentation.
Observe machine operation to identify malfunctions and determine appropriate repair or adjustment.
Consult with equipment vendors to verify root causes of problems and confirm corrective actions.
Use appropriate hand and power tools to replace components, make adjustments, and recalibrate machinery to restore equipment to operating condition quickly and efficiently.
Manage equipment maintenance manuals and service records to ensure accurate documentation and traceability.
Monitor the completion of outstanding work orders assigned to third-party maintenance contractors and verify quality of work.
Maintain positive working relationships with service providers and provide coaching and feedback to support their high performance.
Collaborate with engineering leadership on maintenance contracts and support decisions related to external service providers.
Set up and organize the maintenance shop, including hand and bench tools and supplies needed to support machine maintenance programs.
Issue purchase orders to maintain spare parts inventory at appropriate levels and implement systems and procedures for receiving and parts issuance.
Participate in and sustain 6S activities to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
Work in a safe manner at all times and strictly follow safety policies and procedures.
Help ensure co-workers are working safely and following safety policies, including adherence to lockout/tag out procedures.
Participate in kaizen events and support continuous improvement initiatives, sustaining improvements achieved from those events.
Perform related duties as assigned or directed to support overall plant maintenance and operations.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
Hands-on experience working with 480V electrical systems and 3-phase motors.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics or drawings.
Demonstrated experience with lockout/tag out procedures.
Experience working with hydraulic systems in an industrial environment.
Basic welding skills using MIG or TIG processes.
Experience working with AC and DC motors and drives.
Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including 480V and 3-phase systems.
Experience diagnosing and repairing automated machine tools and related equipment.
Ability to use diagnostic equipment to test circuits and identify faults.
Mechanical aptitude with exposure to hydraulics and pneumatics.
Familiarity with industrial maintenance practices, including preventive and corrective maintenance.
Ability to safely use hand and power tools for maintenance and repair activities.
Knowledge of safety practices such as lockout/tag out and arc flash awareness.
Comfort working in a manufacturing environment that uses chemicals such as acetone, polystyrene, and fiberglass.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with PLCs, including platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Eaton, and Automation Direct.
Experience with PLC troubleshooting and working with programmable logic controllers.
Arc flash or related electrical safety training and use of appropriate protective gear.
Experience with building maintenance in addition to equipment maintenance.
Ability to read relay logic or ladder logic diagrams.
Experience with relay logic-based control systems.
Exposure to 6S or 5S programs and continuous improvement methodologies such as kaizen.
Experience working as a maintenance technician, maintenance electrician, or industrial technician.
Familiarity with lockout/tag out programs and related safety documentation.
Experience with welding processes beyond basic requirements is a plus.
Strong communication skills for collaborating with engineering staff, vendors, and contractors.
Organizational skills for managing manuals, service records, and spare parts inventory.

Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility that specializes in window production and related operations. The position follows a shift-based schedule, with options including 2nd shift (approximately 4:00 p.m. to 12:20 a.m.) and 3rd shift (approximately 12:00 a.m. to 8:20 a.m.), and a separate 1st shift schedule of around 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with weekend work, averaging about 48 hours per week. The maintenance team consists of five maintenance technicians and one maintenance leader, with strong tenure and a collaborative, supportive culture. The facility uses chemicals such as acetone, polystyrene, and fiberglass, and the environment includes noticeable acetone odors, so comfort working around industrial chemicals is important. Employees work with industrial machinery, 480V and 3-phase systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC-controlled equipment, motors, drives, relay logic, and standard maintenance tools. The workplace emphasizes safety, including adherence to lockout/tag out procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and participation in 6S and continuous improvement activities. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.41 - $28.41/hr.
