Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This role offers an experienced Electrical Engineer the opportunity to coordinate and oversee the full lifecycle of large institutional and industrial building projects, from schematic design through construction completion. You will focus primarily on construction administration activities-such as processing submittals and RFIs and resolving field issues-to reduce delays and keep projects on schedule, while providing technical guidance on electrical design and mentoring less-experienced staff. The position involves significant collaboration with architects, engineers, and construction inspectors, as well as direct interaction with government stakeholders on high-visibility projects.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the work of the electrical design team on large institutional and industrial projects from schematic design through contract document phases.
Plan, lead, and participate in meetings and reviews with governing agencies to ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes and regulations.
Organize and manage the electrical team's workload to complete design documents and deliverables on schedule.
Conduct work sessions at project sites in collaboration with the Project Manager and other disciplines to address design and construction issues.
Review electrical drawings and documents to identify and resolve conflicts with architectural, structural, mechanical, and other discipline documents.
Write and edit electrical specifications and assist in the selection of electrical equipment, systems, and devices for building projects.
Coordinate with other disciplines to manage addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders, and ensure agreed-upon changes are accurately incorporated into project documents.
Provide construction contract administration support, including processing submittals and RFIs and helping reduce delays on construction projects.
Perform QA/QC reviews of electrical design work produced by other Electrical Engineers, Electrical Coordinators, and Technicians.
Mentor and provide technical oversight for less-experienced staff on projects such as Federal facilities, laboratories, higher education buildings, data centers, and semiconductor facilities.
Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and construction inspectors as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering cradle-to-grave project management.
Support re-commissioning activities for existing buildings, ensuring electrical systems function as intended and meet current standards.
Use AutoCAD and other design tools to support electrical design tasks as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support successful project delivery.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an electrical emphasis.
Previous experience in electrical design of buildings, including lighting, power, and systems.
Proficiency in electrical design using AutoCAD.
Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office.
Experience using Revit for electrical design and coordination.
Familiarity with SKM for power system analysis.
Experience with AGI or similar lighting design software.
Knowledge of commercial construction practices and processes.
Ability to interpret and apply building codes and electrical standards for institutional and industrial projects.
Strong coordination skills for working with multidisciplinary design and construction teams.
Capability to review and process submittals, RFIs, change orders, and related construction documentation.
Attention to detail and ability to perform thorough QA/QC reviews of electrical design documents.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with project teams and governing agencies.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
Experience working on Federal, laboratory, higher education, data center, or semiconductor projects.
Experience working directly with government clients on building projects.
Experience in re-commissioning existing buildings and optimizing electrical systems.
Ability to mentor and guide less-experienced engineers and technical staff.
Experience working within large, complex project environments with high visibility.
Comfort working in a mix of office-based and meeting-based environments, including coordination with on-site teams.
Work Environment
The role supports re-commissioning and construction projects for buildings at a major Air Force base, providing exposure to a wide range of high-visibility institutional and industrial facilities. You will work closely with government representatives and a multidisciplinary team that includes architects, engineers, and construction inspectors. Approximately 70% of your time will be spent in an office environment using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Microsoft Office to review designs, process documentation, and coordinate with project stakeholders. The remaining 30% of your time will be dedicated to meetings and collaborative sessions, both in the office and at project sites, where you will help resolve issues and keep projects on track.
