Ottawa USD 290 is seeking a motivated and dependable leader to join our facilities team as the Lead Custodian at Sunflower Elementary. This is a full-time, year-round position offering a stable Monday through Friday day-shift schedule, perfect for those seeking a professional leadership role within a supportive educational environment.

The Role

The Lead Custodian is a critical member of the school staff, ensuring that Sunflower Elementary remains a safe, clean, and welcoming place for students to learn. You will be the primary point of contact for building maintenance during the school day and will lead the evening custodial team to ensure all sanitation standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and coordinate the daily

activities of the custodial staff. You will manage shift schedules and ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

Facility Oversight: Conduct regular inspections of the building

and grounds. You will perform routine maintenance, identify necessary repairs, and manage work orders through the districts maintenance system.

Operational Management: Oversee the inventory of cleaning

supplies and equipment, ensuring the team has the tools necessary to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety.

Safety & Security: Manage building security protocols, including

locking/unlocking facilities and responding to immediate safety concerns like spills or weather-related hazards.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Previous experience in custodial work or commercial

cleaning is required; supervisory experience is highly preferred.

Skills: Ability to work independently, manage a team, and

communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and students.

Physical: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical

labor including bending, climbing, and standing for long periods.
