Senior Accountant / Financial Analyst
Job Description
This role provides advanced accounting support with a focus on monthly close activities, complex journal entry preparation, regional balance sheet reconciliations, and fixed asset reporting. The Senior Accountant / Financial Analyst prepares and reviews journal entries, supports annual audit requests, assists with budgeting and forecasting, and delivers ad hoc financial reports and projects. The position also reviews the work of other analysts and staff accountants, offering leadership and guidance as the organization continues to grow through frequent acquisitions.
Responsibilities
Assist with monthly closing activities, including preparing complex journal entries, reviewing accounts, and posting entries prepared by others, with a particular focus on regional assets, liabilities, and profit and loss.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations by region, identify reconciling items, resolve discrepancies, and prepare necessary adjusting entries.
Highlight significant reconciling transactions, communicate them clearly to regional controllers, and ensure timely resolution.
Analyze and prepare special financial reports as requested, including ad hoc and management reporting.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes as needed, providing accurate and timely financial data and analysis.
Provide documentation and supporting schedules for internal and external audit requests as needed.
Lead and guide other accounting team members by reviewing their balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries, and offering constructive feedback.
Manage and perform bank reconciliations and ensure alignment between the general ledger and bank records.
Support construction-in-progress accounting and related journal entries, ensuring accurate tracking and capitalization.
Oversee fixed asset reporting, including depreciation and fixed asset accruals, to ensure accurate financial statement presentation.
Evaluate existing accounting processes, including entries and reconciliations, and recommend or implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Collaborate closely with controllers, maintaining strong, professional relationships while confidently standing your ground on accounting matters when appropriate.
Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and requests, including high volumes of email communication, by setting clear boundaries and focusing on decision-ready items.
Demonstrate proactive problem-solving by understanding the purpose behind accounting processes and continuously seeking better ways to perform them.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field from a four-year college or university (minimum).
Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience as a Senior Accountant or Financial Analyst in a medium-to-large business environment.
Strong understanding of US GAAP, IFRS, and current accounting practices.
Proven experience with journal entry preparation and general ledger accounting.
Demonstrated experience with month-end close processes, including balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
Experience with fixed asset reporting, including depreciation and fixed asset accruals.
Experience with construction-in-progress accounting and related reconciliations.
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate and improve accounting processes.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with controllers and other stakeholders while maintaining professional assertiveness.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and high volumes of requests.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with frequent acquisitions.
Ability to provide leadership and guidance to other accounting team members.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
CPA or comparable technical designation or advanced degree preferred.
Audit background preferred, including experience supporting audit requests and working with auditors.
Knowledge of Workday or similar ERP systems preferred.
Experience in preparing financial statements and management reports.
Demonstrated ability to act as a problem solver and process designer, continuously improving accounting workflows.
Ability to set boundaries and manage communication effectively, including managing email volume and focusing on actionable items.
Comfort working with strong personalities and collaborating constructively while standing firm on sound accounting principles.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
