Electrical Engineer
Job Description
The Electrical Engineer provides critical electrical engineering support to the maintenance, production, and engineering teams to safely meet business objectives. In this role, you design, improve, and maintain electrical systems and controls that are fully integrated with manufacturing processes, driving higher efficiency, output, and product quality. You will lead projects ranging from small improvements to large capital expansions and play a key role in upgrading and modernizing existing equipment across a large aluminum rolling operation.
Responsibilities
Coordinate all phases of assigned electrical engineering projects, from initial concept and scope development through written specifications, bid solicitation, detailed design, manufacturing, equipment commissioning, and project closure.
Lead and participate in problem-solving efforts with multidisciplinary technical staff, including maintenance and production teams, to resolve complex equipment and process issues.
Use PI Vision and PI DataLink to analyze process data, identify trends, and provide data-driven recommendations to solve process problems.
Create and develop electrical control solutions that support process improvements, enhance equipment reliability, and increase overall operational efficiency.
Assist production and maintenance teams with troubleshooting and resolving equipment and process issues in a timely and effective manner.
Redesign, upgrade, and support PLC, HMI, and control systems for existing manufacturing processes.
Install, integrate, and troubleshoot camera systems on industrial equipment to support automated inspection and quality control.
Incorporate Smart Manufacturing principles and tools into automated inspection systems to improve processes, enhance data collection and analysis, and drive rapid recovery and performance improvements.
Collaborate closely with other engineers and technicians in a team environment to plan and execute electrical and automation projects.
Mentor employees, when needed, to increase their knowledge of equipment, controls, and processes.
Manage and support capital projects that can range from tens of thousands of dollars to multi-million-dollar investments, gaining significant capital expansion experience.
Ensure that all electrical engineering work complies with safety standards and supports safe, reliable plant operations.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
1-3 years of electrical engineering experience preferred; relevant internships may count toward this experience.
Foundational experience or exposure to PLC and HMI systems.
Understanding of electrical engineering principles as applied to industrial environments, including electrical design and electrical maintenance.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team with maintenance, production, and other engineering disciplines.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze process issues and propose practical solutions.
Ability to coordinate multiple phases of engineering projects and follow them through to completion.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with technical staff and support production and maintenance teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in automation and controls engineering in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including PLCs and HMIs.
Experience designing or upgrading electrical control systems for large-scale manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with PI Vision and PI DataLink for process monitoring, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
Experience installing and troubleshooting camera systems on industrial equipment for inspection or quality applications.
Exposure to Smart Manufacturing concepts, including automated inspection, advanced data collection, and analytics.
Interest in mentoring and supporting the development of other team members.
Desire to gain experience managing capital projects, including large-scale expansion initiatives.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, modernization-focused manufacturing environment with significant ongoing investments.
Work Environment
This role is based in a large aluminum rolling mill facility, approximately one mile in length, operating as a major hub in a global rolled products network. The site supports aerospace, automotive, commercial transportation, building and construction, industrial, packaging, and consumer goods markets, and has a long history of advanced American manufacturing. The facility has undergone substantial modernization, including significant capital investments over the past decade, and continues to focus on state-of-the-art processes and equipment. You will work in a collaborative team environment that includes a group of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and process engineers,The organization offers opportunities to get involved through employee resource groups, outside activities, and new employee events, as well as support for relocation and other incentives. The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
