IT Database Admin/Developer
SUMMARY:
Under direction, performs database administration, integration and development duties in the Information Technology Department (IT); using SQL related tools, assists in designing, programming and administering databases, interfaces and internally developed reporting systems to meet organizations business needs; conducts database queries and prepares data reports; performs API programming and development duties; coordinates and performs database-related projects to support county business objectives, services and departments; and performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
The duties listed below represent the various @types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not prevent the assignment of work that is appropriately related to this class.
Applies analytical and design methods to create or modify databases; supports database development projects by designing, programming, and administering specialized databases to meet departmental and countywide business needs; analyzes business requirements and database proposals; utilizes data flow charts and other programming tools to design workable database solutions; initiates database production and performs all routine development steps necessary for project completion using various tools such as Microsoft SQL Server Developer. Power BI and Microsoft Visual Studio.
Build and manage data integration (ETL/ELT) pipelines across multiple systems to develop internal business efficiencies.
Designs database queries and prepares reports for multiple county departments using software such as Power BI,Crystal Reports, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services ; designs and creates reports for vendor applications as needed.
Programs Web applications using ASP.NET, Microsoft ASP.NET, Visual Basic, or other development tools.
Provides user training for internally developed software application products; develops training materials as needed.
Initiates and participates in the resolution of vendor-supported software issues; submits problem tickets to vendors as needed; works with vendors by conducting troubleshooting activities and providing the information needed to determine the nature, severity, and priority of the problem.
Provides customer support to end-users related to assigned databases; troubleshoots problems; communicates with customers both remotely and by onsite investigation; resolves issues and follows up to assure that problems have been resolved.
Develops and maintains database documentation, including operational and end-user policies and procedures, to best fulfill the department's mission in a cost-effective, efficient, and secure fashion.
Creates and utilizes forms, databases, spreadsheets, activity logs, or other tools to track and maintain information; locates, retrieves, and compiles data from manual or computerized information systems; assembles and consolidates information from multiple sources.
Attends meetings and training as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Completion of 30 semester (or equivalent) college units in computer science or a related field.
Experience:
Four years programming and administering complex databases, including at least three years working with:
Microsoft SQL Server and related application tools;
SQL Reporting Services and or Power BI
Microsoft ASP.NET 4.0 Framework or higher;
Microsoft Windows Server pertaining to SQL and Web server operations.
Substitutions:
Two additional years of qualifying experience may substitute for the above-required education.
Equivalent information technology training/certifications may substitute for all or part of the above-required education.
Licenses and Certificates:
A valid license to drive a vehicle in Colorado and a safe driving record is required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Microsoft and certifications related to database programming and administration are desirable.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
-Pre-employment background checks may be required.
