Summary About the Position: As an Engineer Equipment Operator, you will perform vital maintenance for the Garrison Dam, Reservoir, and Missouri River areas. You will operate light and heavy machinery (up to 40-ton cranes) and navigate workboats to support flood control, road repair, and bank stabilization. Responsibilities Operates light and heavy equipment including but not limited to mobile cranes, truck/trailer combinations, dump trucks, wheel loaders, skid-steers, agricultural tractors, excavators, and dozers. Operates mobile and/or crawler cranes up to 40 ton with attachments. Guards against overturning equipment when working on edges of embankments. Operation of equipment requires coordination of controls governing motive power of equipment plus controls operating attachments. Operates, navigates, and is responsible for maintenance of several @types of boats and floating equipment on the Missouri River and at dam site. Performs routine maintenance, required adjustments, and emergency field repairs on vehicles or equipment. Performs welding, both acetylene and electric, as needed in the repair of vehicles, trailers, tractors, hitches and various other items of equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance of project areas. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks such as operating farm tractors, forklifts, and skid-steer loaders to load materials, clear brush, and maintain grounds. I can safely operate heavy equipment to perform fine grading or excavate materials. I can perform daily preventive maintenance and minor field repairs. I operate trucks with a gross vehicle weight in excess of 26,000 lbs and possess a current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Works on the top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Does strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment, and tools. Often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside under abnormal temperature and weather conditions. Is exposed to the danger of tipping or overturning equipment when working on banks or side slopes. Is exposed to hazards of river traffic, erratic river conditions, danger of falling overboard and drowning, etc. Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions and its use is mandatory.
