Senior Accountant - Construction
Location: Rockland County, NY
Compensation: $110,000-$125,000 plus Bonus
Overview
A well-established and growing construction contractor in Rockland County is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team, reporting directly to the Controller. This role is highly involved in project-based accounting, financial reporting, and job cost analysis, with strong exposure to leadership and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Support month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Prepare and analyze general ledger activity and account reconciliations
Assist with financial statement preparation and distribution
Manage daily cash activity, including transfers, cash receipts, and bank reconciliations
Oversee credit card reconciliations and payroll entries
Drive AIA billing (requisitioning), lien waivers, and draw package documentation
Support percentage-of-completion (WIP) reporting
Partner with AP team to ensure proper job costing and coding of invoices
Assist with project closeouts, ensuring all financial and compliance documentation is complete
Prepare documentation for insurance audits (GL & Workers' Comp)
Support external audits and financial reviews
Maintain multi-entity accounting transactions and intercompany activity
Assist with ERP/system optimization, improving reporting and close processes
Build strong relationships with Project Managers and Contracts teams
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA a plus
4-7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments
Strong understanding of:
o AIA billing / requisitioning
o Percentage-of-completion accounting
o Job costing and project financials
Experience working in multi-entity environments
Systems & Technical Skills
Strong experience with Sage accounting systems (Sage Intacct)
Advanced Excel skills required
Experience with construction accounting systems and reporting tools preferred
