Job Title: 2nd Shift Assembler
Job Description
This role focuses on assembling and preparing industrial metal products for shipment while maintaining a safe, efficient, and high-quality production environment. As a 2nd Shift Assembler, you support daily operations by assembling materials according to detailed specifications, accurately recording order information, and filling in across various positions as needed to keep production running smoothly.
Responsibilities
Assemble material for shipment or components in accordance with specifications and instructions on work orders.
Select material from specific heats or based on physical condition as directed by order requirements.
Count and record heat or test numbers, symbols, random lengths, and all other required information accurately on orders.
Prepare, band, and package materials using appropriate hand tools to meet packaging specifications.
Use measurement tools, such as tape measures and gauges, to verify lengths, sizes, and other specifications.
Understand and follow work order packaging specifications to ensure correct materials and configurations are shipped.
Maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards for each job assignment throughout the shift.
Handle materials safely and efficiently, including staging and organizing orders in the production area.
Apply basic problem-solving skills to troubleshoot minor issues and maintain workflow in a dynamic production environment.
Adapt to different tasks and fill in for absent positions, within your qualifications, to support overall production needs.
Follow all facility procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines consistently.
Perform all other duties as assigned, with responsibilities and activities subject to change as operational needs evolve.
Essential Skills
Ability to successfully complete a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspection and measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy when counting materials, recording heat and test numbers, and verifying order specifications.
Proficiency with hand tools used for banding, securing, and packaging materials for shipment.
Ability to read and understand work orders, specifications, and packaging requirements.
Comfort using measurement tools, including tape measures and gauges, to confirm lengths, sizes, and product specifications.
Basic math skills to count, measure, and record material data accurately.
Demonstrated ability to follow safety, quality, and productivity standards in a manufacturing or production environment.
Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with metal products and basic fabrication or processing concepts.
Ability to work a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Forklift operation certification and experience safely moving materials and staging orders in a production or warehouse environment (preferred).
Overhead crane or hoist experience, including use of slings, chains, and lifting devices to handle metal materials (preferred).
Experience with material handling equipment such as fork trucks and cranes to move, stage, and load materials while maintaining safety and productivity.
Experience in shipping, receiving, or order fulfillment, including picking, staging, and preparing orders for outbound shipment.
Background in inventory tracking or documentation, including recording lot numbers, heat numbers, or tracking materials through production.
Prior experience in the metals or steel industry, such as steel service centers or fabrication shops (preferred).
Demonstrated adaptability to rotate across different roles and support various production tasks as needed.
Basic problem-solving skills to address minor operational issues and support continuous workflow.

Work Environment
This position is based in a large, standard manufacturing facility dedicated to industrial metal products. The environment is not climate controlled, so temperatures vary with the seasons. You will work on a production floor with a team of around 40 people, collaborating closely to meet safety, quality, and productivity goals. The role involves working with hand tools, banding and packaging equipment, measurement tools such as tape measures and gauges, and, where qualified, material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes. The dress code includes steel-toe boots, jeans, and a T-shirt suitable for a manufacturing setting. The primary schedule for this role is 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday, from 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with a 1st shift operating from 4:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the same days for broader facility operations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.19 - $24.19/hr.
