Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on the design, installation, and continuous improvement of electrical equipment, facilities, components, and systems for industrial manufacturing. The Electrical Engineer supports manufacturing reliability by troubleshooting electrical and controls issues, leading projects that enhance equipment performance, and implementing advanced automation technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs. This position works closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineering, technicians, and production staff, in a stable and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
Design and install electrical equipment, facilities, components, and systems for industrial manufacturing applications.
Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to support manufacturing reliability and minimize downtime.
Perform and assist technicians in the fabrication, setup, and testing of control apparatus and electrical equipment.
Identify and recommend capital investments and improvements for manufacturing and facility equipment and processes.
Coordinate and manage work performed by outside contractors on building, process, and equipment electrical and control systems.
Develop applications of controls, instruments, and automation systems for industrial uses.
Perform, direct, and coordinate the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems.
Use computer-assisted engineering and design software, including CAD tools, to create and update engineering drawings and documentation.
Apply SolidWorks to support design activities and ensure accurate and manufacturable solutions.
Research, evaluate, and implement advanced technologies in tooling, automation, and mechanization to reduce manufacturing costs and improve productivity.
Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, technicians, and production staff to resolve technical issues and support new and existing processes.
Provide training and guidance to associates on electrical systems, controls, and related equipment as needed.
Apply lean manufacturing principles, root cause analysis, and problem-solving tools to identify and resolve process and equipment issues.
Incorporate relevant codes and standards, such as OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and NEC, into designs and daily work practices.
Support operations in a multi-shift manufacturing environment, including occasional off-shift or weekend support when needed.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field
Proven experience designing electrical systems and creating detailed engineering drawings using CAD software.
Proficiency with SolidWorks for engineering design and documentation.
Hands-on experience with electrical engineering in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Working knowledge of control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human-machine interfaces (HMIs).
Ability to use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to complete engineering tasks.
Demonstrated experience using lean manufacturing methodologies, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving tools.
Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and control systems in a production environment.
Ability to coordinate and oversee work by external contractors on electrical and control projects.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with mechanical engineering, technicians, and production staff.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical design and documentation.
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and NEC standards and their application in an industrial environment.
Background in web converting, paper/pulp converting, or similar high-speed, rotating equipment environments is preferred.
Experience working in a multi-shift manufacturing facility is preferred.
Familiarity with control system design, implementation, and optimization for industrial applications.
Ability to research and apply advanced technologies in automation, tooling, and mechanization to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Comfort with providing training or technical guidance to associates on electrical and control systems.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role based in a manufacturing facility, working on location five days per week. The environment involves close collaboration with mechanical engineers, technicians, and production staff, as well as coordination with outside contractors for electrical and control system projects. The facility operates in a multi-shift setting, and there may be occasional requirements to support operations off-shift or on weekends; when this occurs, hours can be banked. The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $70000.00/yr.
