Job Title: Construction Helper
Job Description
This role focuses on refurbishing and maintaining construction trailers in a shop environment. You will perform a wide range of hands-on tasks, including drywall and flooring replacement, interior and exterior painting, basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical and framing work, as well as general repairs and cleaning. The position is ideal for a mechanically inclined, handy individual who takes pride in their work, learns quickly, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, shop-based setting.
Responsibilities
Remove existing drywall in trailers and install new drywall according to the required layout for each job.
Use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete daily tasks.
Operate a spray gun to paint the interior and exterior of trailers to a high-quality finish.
Tear out existing flooring and install new laminate or tile flooring based on customer specifications.
Accurately document completed work on each trailer using a paper-based tracking system.
Operate a forklift to move or lift materials and trailers around the yard when needed and authorized.
Perform basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical, framing, and general construction-related repairs as required.
Assist with cleaning and detailing trailers, including windows, blinds, doors, floors, and walls when components do not need replacement.
Support general shop operations as a helper, including organizing tools, maintaining a clean work area, and assisting other technicians.
Follow safety procedures and guidelines while working with tools, equipment, and materials in the shop and yard.
Essential Skills
Demonstrated handyman or maintenance background, such as experience maintaining apartment complexes or similar facilities.
Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, framing, and general construction tasks.
Experience using basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
Ability to perform drywall removal and installation, including measuring, cutting, and fastening.
Ability to remove and install laminate or tile flooring with attention to detail and durability.
Capability to use or learn to use a spray gun for interior and exterior painting.
Experience working in a manufacturing or shop environment, or as a general shop helper.
Ability to accurately document work using a paper-based system.
Physically able and willing to perform labor-intensive tasks and work in a hands-on, sometimes dirty environment.
Coachable attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and follow established processes.
Strong pride in workmanship and commitment to completing tasks thoroughly and correctly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in HVAC, plumbing, maintenance, repair, electrical work, framing, or construction is highly beneficial.
Experience working in manufacturing or a similar production-oriented environment.
Prior general shop helper experience in a repair or fabrication setting.
EPA Universal certification is a plus but not required.
Forklift experience or willingness to be trained to safely operate a forklift.
No formal certifications or specific licenses are required for this role.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team of technicians.
Strong communication skills to coordinate tasks and report completed work clearly.

Work Environment
You will work primarily in a shop where construction trailers are dropped off to be repaired, refurbished, and prepared for return to construction sites. The shop is smaller and team-oriented, with approximately 15 technicians working together on various units. The role involves frequent use of hand and power tools, spray painting equipment, and potentially a forklift when needed. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional hours during the spring and summer when workload increases. The environment is hands-on and can be dirty at times, so you should be comfortable working around construction materials, tools, and equipment in an active repair facility.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
