The External Communications / Media Relations Specialist will play a key role in strengthening AIG Japan's reputation and visibility through proactive, disciplined, and strategically aligned external communications.
This role is responsible for media relations, press inquiries, and external messaging, ensuring that communications are clear, timely, and aligned with business priorities, global standards, and local market needs.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and a strategic, hands-on communicator who can translate complex insurance, business, and reputational issues into clear, compelling communications.

Core Role Responsibilities(????????)
Media Relations and External Reputation
Develop and execute media relations strategies that support AIG Japan's business priorities, brand positioning, and reputation.
Build and maintain strong relationships with business, financial, insurance, trade, and general media in Japan.

Draft and edit press releases, media statements, Q&A documents, briefing materials, talking points, and other external communications materials.

Prepare executives and subject matter experts for media interviews, speaking opportunities, panel discussions, and external engagements.
Monitor media coverage, industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging issues to identify opportunities, risks, and implications for AIG Japan.
Manage media lists, reporting, coverage analysis, and post-activity evaluation to assess communications effectiveness.
Strategic and Aligned Communications
Ensure external communications are aligned with AIG's global messaging, AIG Japan's business strategy, and local market priorities.
Work with global and regional communications teams to adapt enterprise-level messaging for Japan, ensuring cultural relevance, regulatory sensitivity, and consistency of tone.
Partner with business leaders and functional teams to develop communications plans for major announcements, business initiatives, partnerships, product-related developments, industry events, and reputational matters.
Provide communications counsel on message development, stakeholder impact, timing, and external positioning.

Education
Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Specific Qualifications / Capabilities
Experience in media relations, including direct engagement with journalists and news media.
High level of strategic thinking and a strong ability to align regional and global communications, marketing, and business strategies while adapting them to local business practices and cultural nuances.
Business proficiency in English and native-level fluency in Japanese.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong project management skills.
Hands-on experience with social media monitoring.
Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, synthesize information, and exercise sound judgment.
Strong collaboration, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Comfortable engaging with internal and external audiences.
