SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking aEmergency Medical Services Supervisor (Battalion Chief) to join our EMS Operations team. This full-time position will work rotating nights.

Is responsible for the direct supervision of field and support staff. Responds to incidents in the field that require a supervisory presence. May supervise the EMS Emergency Communication Center and Special Operations staff in the absence of the other EMS Battalion Chiefs (Supervisor)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primarily responsible for Field Operations while functioning as the Battalion Chief including, but not limited to; staff direction and work assignment, vehicle and equipment maintenance, communications, ambulance deployment and response, scheduling and staffing, and problem-solving. May supervise the operations of the Emergency Communications Center and Special Operations in the absence of the other Battalion Chiefs (Supervisor)
Report staffing and scheduling issues to the Scheduler either directly while working shift, or by email if not requiring immediate resolution. Scheduling issues that require immediate resolution may be completed by the OperationsBattalion Chief (Supervisor)
Understand, manage, and execute the Incident Management System including the Incident Response Plan, (IRP)
Responds to special Incidents and occupy key roles of Incident Management System and directing staff from multiple agencies, (e.g., multiple alarm fires, multiple casualty incidents, hazardous materials, multiple agency responses, difficult extrication, E-Help, FAA emergencies, civil unrest, helicopter landings, natural disasters, acts of terrorism, mass gatherings, unusual situations, et al.) throughout Hennepin County and the Metro Region
In the field,**provides job specific coaching, training, and mentoring to employees. Corrects negative behaviors and inappropriate actions as needed on scenes and incidents. Provides equipment, medications, and assistance as needed on scenes and incidents
Reports issues with equipment, trucks, substations, personnel, and other to Deputy Chiefs (Manager). Able to report and articulate issues effectively for appropriate resolution
Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Staff (Manager) and in collaboration with the Deputy Chief Operations (Manager), evaluates employee performance and complete annual employee performance appraisals
Complete daily shift operations record and submit to Deputy Chief Operations (Manager)
Investigates and initiates action to resolve queries, complaints, and concerns that arise during Battalion Chief (Supervisor) shift. Reports issues to Deputy Chief Operations (Manager) for final resolution, including discipline if necessary
Responsible for Field Training Officers (FTO's) working in the field. Support and mentor FTO's and Preceptors by directly working with them in the field. Report issues to Deputy Chief Staff (Manager)
Oversight and responsible and attend meetings for Operations Quality Assurance program. Under the direction of the Deputy Chief Communications (Manager). Report equipment, technology, or personnel issues to Deputy Chief Communications (Manager)
Ensures sound management of department resources, including emergency equipment and vehicles, supplies, and staffing
Thoroughly understand and enforce EMS department policies and procedures. Make recommendations of updates and changes to Deputy Chief Operations (Manager).Ensures compliance with OSHA, HIPAA and The Joint Commission
Understands, administers, and enforces the labor agreements and Human Resource rules
Supports management initiatives.Attains goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall missionAttends all required training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards
Follows the hospital and department exposure control plans regarding bloodborne and airborne pathogens
Demonstrates respect and due regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employee and to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
Performs all job functions of a Paramedic or EMT, when working as a member of a crew, subject to the individual's certification and training
Operates emergency vehicles, administers basic and advanced life support techniques, performs related duties in providing emergency medical services, and transports sick and injured persons to and from a health care facility
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
/Minimum Qualifications:/
Associate Degree (AA, AAS, or AS) in business, business administration, management, public administration, education, finance, economics, healthcare, health sciences, public health, communication, computer science, information technology or related field;
-OR-
An approved equivalent combination of education and experience as a Paramedic operating in an EMS system using SSM, flexible or dynamic deployment models
-AND-
3 years of full-time experience as a Paramedic with Hennepin EMS or with a licensed Advanced Life Support EMS service
Must have basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office

Must be certified by the State of Minnesota as an EMT-P and meet the physical and performance qualifications for Hennepin EMS
Must be certified by the State of Minnesota as a Paramedic and meet the physical and performance qualifications for Hennepin EMS
Must have a valid driver's license or state equivalent
Must have a satisfactory driving record including no more than two moving violations in the past three years of licensure
Must complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course as designated by Hennepin EMS-post-hire
Must qualify for and maintain a Hennepin County motor vehicle operators permit-post-hire

Previous Supervisory and teaching experience are desirable
