Accounts Payable Consultant (Remote)
Job Description
This interim Accounts Payable Supervisor role supports the accounts payable team while the current manager is on leave. You will oversee day-to-day AP operations, guide two junior specialists, and handle a high volume of domestic and international payments. The position is fully remote and requires deep hands-on experience with Dynamics 365 (D365), nonprofit accounting, and complex payables processes, including ACH, international wires, and journal entries.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of approximately 150 invoices per week.
Process invoices end-to-end, including verification, coding, approvals, and entry into Dynamics 365 (D365).
Prepare and execute ACH payments, international wire transfers, and other electronic payments in alignment with established policies and controls.
Create, review, and post journal entries related to accounts payable and expense allocations.
Utilize online banking platforms such as Cash Pro, Bank of America, and Core Pay to initiate, monitor, and reconcile payments.
Support month-end close activities by reconciling AP sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolving discrepancies promptly.
Apply nonprofit accounting knowledge to ensure proper handling of taxes, exemptions, and other compliance-related requirements.
Provide day-to-day direction, guidance, and support to two junior AP specialists, helping them prioritize work and resolve issues.
Ensure strong customer service to internal stakeholders and external vendors by responding promptly and professionally to inquiries and resolving payment issues.
Maintain accurate and organized documentation of invoices, payments, and approvals in accordance with internal controls and audit requirements.
Collaborate with finance and accounting colleagues to improve AP processes and support broader financial operations.
Report on AP status, issues, and process improvements to leadership as needed throughout the interim assignment.
Essential Skills
At least 6+ years of hands-on accounts payable experience, including high-volume invoice processing.
Proficiency with Dynamics 365 (D365) for accounts payable and related financial processes.
Demonstrated experience processing ACH payments and international wire transfers.
Strong experience preparing and posting journal entries related to accounts payable and general ledger activity.
Background in the nonprofit industry with an understanding of nonprofit-specific taxes, exemptions, and compliance considerations.
Familiarity with online banking platforms such as Cash Pro, Bank of America, and Core Pay.
Experience supporting month-end close activities, including AP reconciliations to the general ledger.
Ability to provide guidance and informal leadership to junior team members in an AP environment.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with vendors and internal stakeholders.
High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization in a fast-paced, high-volume AP setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in a supervisory or senior-level AP role, acting as a lead above more junior specialists.
Comfort working in an interim or temporary capacity, quickly learning processes and systems.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying responsive and collaborative.
No specific degree requirement, allowing candidates with strong practical experience to qualify.
Willingness to participate in a streamlined interview process, typically involving one round with key stakeholders.

This is a Contract position based out of Washington, DC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
