Electrical Junior Mechanic
Job Description
This role involves assisting with commercial electrical work with a focus on conduit installation, rough-in work, and basic wiring in multi-unit and commercial environments. You will support mechanics with installing conduit, pulling wire, and preparing electrical systems while following NEC guidelines. The position is ideal for a junior electrician looking to grow skills, work safely, and contribute to projects across local NYC job sites.
Responsibilities
Assist with installing electrical conduit systems, including EMT, ENT, and Smurf Tube, using hand benders and basic tools.
Support layout of electrical systems for commercial and apartment projects under supervision.
Perform electrical rough-in work, including assisting with conduit runs, mounting boxes, and prepping for final installation.
Assist with pulling wire and feeder cables, ensuring proper routing and organization.
Help with installation of panels, switches, receptacles, and lighting fixtures.
Support service work, including basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Follow NEC code requirements for grounding, bonding, and general installation practices.
Assist with panel wiring and installation of switches, including three-way switches.
Work with foremen and mechanics to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
Maintain accurate daily sign-in and sign-out with site foremen.
Use proper PPE and follow all jobsite safety rules at all times.
Maintain tools and keep work areas clean and organized.
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and positive attitude.
Adapt to different project phases, including rough-in and finish work.
Essential Skills
Basic experience with conduit installation, including EMT and PVC.
Familiarity with conduit bending using hand benders.
Understanding of basic NEC code and electrical safety practices.
Ability to assist with layout, rough-in, and wire pulling on job sites.
Willingness to learn troubleshooting and electrical service work.
Basic knowledge of panel work and wiring.
Experience working on commercial or residential construction sites.
SST 10-hour certification.
OSHA 30 certification.
Ability to take direction and work as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on NYC job sites (preferred).
Basic familiarity with power distribution systems and service work.
Strong communication skills with foremen and mechanics.
Dependable and punctual with daily site procedures.
Willingness to grow skillset and take on more responsibility over time.

Work Environment
Work takes place on commercial construction sites throughout New York City. Typical start times are 7:00 a.m., with daily sign-in and sign-out required. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, where junior mechanics work alongside experienced electricians to complete installations safely and efficiently. PPE, tools, and certifications must be maintained at all times while working on site.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
