Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Services (MHSATS) is one of DCT's five main service lines. MHSATS provides inpatient services in eight psychiatric hospitals, three locked substance-use-disorder treatment facilities, and three short-term residential mental health treatment facilities. Nearly all patients have been civilly committed as mentally ill, chemically dependent or both.
In collaboration with the rehabilitation director, this professional is responsible for providing clinical coverage of OT services, student coordination, and professional development for rehabilitation therapy services (OT and OTA) provided across all 13 greater Minnesota MHSATS treatment facilities (CBHH, CABHH, MSHS, and CARE). This individual is responsible for ensuring ongoing clinical competency of OT staff including assisting with onboarding and training of new occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants; ongoing professional training and development of OT and OTA staff; contributing to building staff practice competencies, coordinating peer consultation learning experiences; and assisting in the oversight of student fieldwork/internship. They ensure OT services follow best practices and are delivered by staff practicing at their highest level of licensure. This individual ensures the sustainability of OT services by working strategically with community educational and training institutions to attract, recruit, and retain highly qualified professionals.
Duties Include:
Provide training and mentoring to OT and OTA staff to support each individual's ability to provide services that include evidence-based practices, supports new research, comply with regulatory standards and adheres to agency policies, and assists them in working at the top of their clinical practice or licensure.
Provides direct coverage and additional support to the OT and OTA staff at sites in MHSATS.
Maintain required clinical competency through continuing education and completion of safety and regulatory training to meet hospital appointment and privileging requirements.
Development and coordination of OT student fieldwork and internship program.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must be licensed to practice occupational therapy in the state of Minnesota; OR be currently licensed to practice occupational therapy in another state and must obtain licensure in Minnesota prior to appointment.
In addition, you must satisfy the following combinations of education and experience:
Occupational Therapist Senior:
Have Master's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program; AND
At least 6 months of professional, post-licensure occupational therapy experience
OR
Have a doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with individuals with mental illness or behavioral health conditions
Training and knowledge of trauma informed care principles
