Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Job Description
The Construction Superintendent leads all phases of commercial and industrial construction projects from preconstruction planning through final completion. This role coordinates closely with clients, architects, engineers, and project managers to define project scope, materials, constructability, and schedules, while overseeing all on-site activities to ensure safety, quality, code compliance, and budget adherence. The superintendent manages subcontractors, maintains detailed project documentation, and proactively resolves issues to keep projects on track and aligned with company standards and client expectations.
Responsibilities
Lead preconstruction planning by collaborating with clients, architects, engineers, and the project manager to define project scope, materials, constructability, and scheduling requirements.
Develop and manage project schedules, sequencing work to meet deadlines and coordinating inspections and key milestones.
Oversee day-to-day on-site construction activities, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
Monitor project budgets in coordination with the project manager, tracking progress and adjusting plans as needed to meet financial goals.
Coordinate and schedule required inspections, ensuring timely completion and resolution of any issues identified by inspectors.
Evaluate and manage subcontractors and contractors for quality, safety, and adherence to schedules, providing direction and feedback as needed.
Identify and resolve deficiencies in workmanship, safety practices, or schedule performance, negotiating practical solutions and enforcing contract requirements and company policies.
Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and company safety standards on the job site, promoting a culture of safety among all workers and subcontractors.
Maintain accurate and timely project documentation, including daily reports, progress logs, submittal and shop drawing reviews, punch lists, and project certifications.
Regularly communicate with project managers, clients, contractors, and design professionals to address issues, resolve conflicts, and maintain project momentum.
Continuously assess project risks, quality control, and opportunities for improvement in construction methods, materials, and contractor performance.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Log project progress consistently and accurately over the course of the project to support reporting, billing, and performance analysis.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience in construction.
At least 3 years of those 5 years in a construction leadership role as a superintendent.
At least 3 years of experience logging project progress and maintaining detailed project records.
Proven experience in commercial construction.
Experience in industrial construction environments.
Strong construction management skills, including planning, scheduling, and resource coordination.
Demonstrated project management capabilities, including budget and schedule oversight.
Subcontractor management experience, including evaluation, coordination, and performance oversight.
Solid understanding of construction safety practices and regulations.
Ability to interpret and work from construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors.
Ability to travel to and manage work from varying job sites as assigned.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience coordinating inspections and working with code officials.
Experience enforcing contracts and company policies with contractors and subcontractors.
Experience creating and managing punch lists and project closeout documentation.
Ability to identify and implement improvements in construction methods, materials, and contractor performance.
Proven ability to build strong working relationships across diverse project teams.
Results-oriented mindset with a focus on meeting quality, safety, schedule, and financial goals.
Interest in long-term growth with a smaller company environment that offers performance-based stock and bonus opportunities.
Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based and manages projects directly from the job site, with locations varying depending on current project assignments. You will work in active commercial and industrial construction environments, coordinating with multiple trades and stakeholders on site. The company operates with a close-knit team of approximately 50 employees, where executive leadership remains actively involved in the work and stays connected to day-to-day operations. The culture emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and hands-on support from leadership. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00/hr.
