Description We are looking for a Payroll Accountant to support a short-term Contract assignment in Minnetonka, Minnesota within the wholesale distribution industry. This role will focus on validating payroll-related financial activity, reviewing benefit and garnishment balances, and ensuring payroll data is accurately reconciled for each biweekly cycle from the beginning of January to the present. The position requires strong Excel reporting skills and a detail-oriented approach to comparing payroll records, retirement deductions, and related accounting support for a workforce of approximately 650 employees.

Responsibilities:

Review payroll records for each biweekly pay period and confirm balances align with supporting payroll and accounting data.

Reconcile benefit deductions, payroll withholdings, and garnishment amounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.

Perform 401(k) reconciliation activities to ensure employee deductions and employer-related figures are accurately recorded.

Prepare and analyze Excel-based reports that summarize payroll activity, variances, and outstanding items requiring follow-up.

Compare payroll numbers across source records and financial reports to verify completeness and accuracy.

Support full-cycle payroll accounting tasks involving multi-state payroll information and related reporting details.

Investigate mismatched amounts from prior payroll periods and document corrective actions as needed. Requirements - 3+ years of experience in payroll accounting, payroll reconciliation, or a closely related function.

Hands-on knowledge of full-cycle payroll processing, including benefit deductions and garnishment calculations.

Experience working with multi-state payroll environments and payroll tax reporting requirements.

Proficiency with Excel at an intermediate level, including the ability to build and review payroll-related reports.

Familiarity with UKG Ready, UKG Pro, or comparable payroll systems.

Demonstrated ability to reconcile payroll balances, research variances, and tie supporting data to final totals.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high-volume employee population with accuracy.
