Summary The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia. Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will be responsible for directly supporting criminal investigations and prosecutions by locating persons of interest and gathering information and evidence through the application of investigative techniques such as open-source information gathering, utilizing database and records checks, and conducting static and mobile surveillance as an Investigative Specialist within the Criminal Investigations Unit of the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. This position is an unarmed law enforcement support position and does not make arrests or directly confront, apprehend, or take custody of criminal suspects. This position involves significant time spent in the field in all weather conditions at all hours of day and night. Typical work assignments include: Conducts moderately complex surveillance operations as a team member. Prepares reports and maintains records of moderate to significant complexity. Applies investigative strategy related to the use of fixed and mobile surveillance to support and advance criminal investigations. Provides law enforcement support including testifying in a variety of hearings; preparing documents, organizing electronics and physical evidence; and providing hearing and trial support. Canvasses areas of interest for evidence and identifies additional sources of potential evidence. Utilizes surveillance and investigative tradecraft to locate subjects of criminal investigations, as well as witnesses and victims who may be uncooperative or hostile.
