Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team in the Victim Witness Unit responsible for the District's Victim Witness program. Typical work assignments will include: Determining program eligibility for victim and witness services. Assisting Assistant U.S. Attorneys in locating victims and assessing their ability to testify in court proceedings. Providing in-court support to victims during and prior to hearings and trials. Coordinating with Federal, state, and local law enforcement and victim service providers in establishing comprehensive assistance plans to support victims. Conducting victim assistance workshops, seminars, presentations, and meetings with law enforcement personnel, Federal investigative agency victim specialists, state and local officials, and members of community organizations. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal sector. Specialized experience is defined as providing routine assistance to crime victims and witnesses before or during court hearings and trials, and, assessing their needs for assistance; providing routine referrals to crime victims, their families and witnesses; and, supporting outreach and collaboration efforts with local, state and federal law enforcement personnel and social service organizations to increase resources and services to serve crime victims. OR Education: One of the following @types of education in a related field such as Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, or Social Work: a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years.
